It’s about getting sick in America.

And it’s about what happens when the most powerful institution in town is a hospital.

This should be policy in every city and town in America. Once they break the law, they are criminals and should be treated as such. It also makes them subject to self-defense and citizen's arrest laws.

14/ Mrs. Parker could feel her daughter about to explode.

Why was this doctor talking in circles? Was he hiding something? Was Phoebe hiding something?

Suddenly, the hospital’s “family” embrace was starting to feel more like a trap.

12/ Palazzolo directed Mrs. Parker and her daughter Andrea toward Dr. WIlliam Garrett, the neurologist on call.

As Garrett took them through models of Anthony’s brain, he explained the damage that could have been caused in the 4 to 14 minutes the heart had stopped beating.

11/ That was a reflex, a spasm, the doctor said.

It wasn’t a sign of brain activity. There hadn’t been any meaningful sign of brain activity since the surgery, he told her.

10/ Mrs. Parker was confused. The previous doctors had told her they were giving her husband’s brain time to rest and recover, and then they would wake him.

No one had raised the possibility that he wouldn’t recover.

“Anthony opened his eyes,” she reminded Palazzolo.

9/ Six days after Mrs. Parker authorized the hypothermia treatment for Anthony, a new doctor, Dr. James Palazzolo, introduced himself.

He wanted to know two things:
• Had Anthony signed a living will?
• Had she spoken with a neurologist?

8/ As Mrs. Parker continued to wait, Anthony briefly opened his eyes. It was only for a few seconds, a jolt, but she knew it was enough.

He would be coming back, she told herself. He was going to wake up.
