A whole lot of cities saw backlashes against density in and around the 1970s.

Downzoning: apartments that previously got built were no longer allowed.

This happened in Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Lots more cities. Probably wherever you live, dear reader!
In 1978, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors downzoned the city, banning multifamily homes in many areas and sparking a decades-long affordability crisis.

47 years later, on a 7–4 vote, they passed the Family Zoning Plan to finally begin to undo that mistake.

The times, they are a-changin’!

I want a movie and no fewer than three sequels.
“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

Interrupted one conversation strangers had near me today to tell them about FERPA rights and just interrupted another one to tell them about same day voter registration. I’m on a roll lol

I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

Just watched the first episode of Pluribus, knowing nothing about it except that it was shot in Albuquerque, oh and I guess I’m also never sleeping again either

While I was reading this post, I got an ad about how to basically lie to your kid when they lost their stuffed animal using AI to generate images of them on an adventure. It was probably intended to be cute but it gave me a tummy ache
Same but for any restaurant that uses AI images of their food (including a few well reviewed, high end places in nyc)
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

The conspiracy theory I secretly believe is that private equity tanked Jo-Ann’s in particular so we are less able to repair our broken textile products cheaper, forcing us to buy new ones
