Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

Former President George W. Bush's silence through all of this is deafening. Whatever his policies and presidency amounted to, he was never anti-democracy. He knows what Trump is doing is wrong and dangerous. He should be speaking out.

Succinctly put. I'm working on a poem that starts, "I'm trying to keep politics out of it, but you keep voting on my body. "
the thing is, “differing political views” used to be about what percentage to tax high earners and not whether brown people are humans

Everyone has a list of so-called "red flags" when they're dating. And for some, especially younger Americans, different political views is a relationship deal breaker.

THIS. Did you know sickle cell is curable, now? FULLY curable.

If you're feeling down or despairing about what FEELS like technology/advancement/science "standing still" or being fully malicious, I have great news: You're not paying attention to actual science. Just tech industry marketing.
meanwhile.... medicine has taken INSANE leaps and bounds in the last 2 years.
we're out here curing HIV and leukemia and creating 100% efficacy vaccines against all sorts of cancers, and now this??

between this and renewable energy outstripping fossil fuels in efficiency, the future is bright
Wanna see real-life miracles? Fund scientific research.

A team of US scientists just cured Alzheimer’s in mice — and there is now hope that the disease can be reversed in humans.

They understand social shunning, which another reason sanewashing is bad — it blunts an effective tool.
Artist boycott of The Kennedy Center continues to grow

“Any artist cancelling their show at the Trump Kennedy Center over political differences isn’t courageous or principled-they are selfish, intolerant, & have failed to meet the basic duty of a public artist: to perform for all ppl” — Roma Daravi

SHITPOST GAME:

scroll bluesky until you get mad.

instead of responding, roll a d6 and do the corresponding action:
1-2: X # of pushups
3-4: 5X # of squats
5-6: 2X # of mountain climbers

X is the number of times you have gotten mad

repeat until you are sick of bluesky
I need everyone to make a shitpost game that fits into at most 3 posts on here before the end of the year otherwise thr sun will not rise again
Not enough shitpost games though

This is not hard. Artists are not responsible for ensuring the Kennedy Center remains relevant and successful. The center’s board is responsible for that, in a fiduciary way. All of this energy being directed at artists should be re-directed at the board.

“Their impunity traces back to two Supreme Court decisions that put far too much faith in ICE’s commitment to respecting people’s constitutional rights. As a result of these cases, people whose rights are violated by ICE agents have little to no recourse.”

Why ICE Is Getting Away With It
The Constitution inarguably applies to federal immigration agents—but the Supreme Court has taken away the hope of ever holding them to that standard.

I think these "US protestors are soft, look at what they're doing in ______" posts (especially by people in the US) only serve to demoralize and demotivate the movement.

The sentiment is not grounded in reality. It's a kind of propaganda that leftists seem to buy into for some reason. Stop it.

I'm not saying that the pigs in Western European countries can't be brutal or corrupt, or that protesters in other countries aren't also brave.

But protesting and direct action in the US is a routine exercise in extraordinary, life-ending or life-altering danger - with no social safety net.

Christmas can be a beautiful season, but it can also feel painfully loud when your heart is quiet, tired, or hurting.

If you are alone this Christmas, or struggling in ways others may not see, please know this: you are not failing the season. You are surviving it. And that matters.

(I've said this before. I'm going to keep saying it.)

Previously, scientists have mostly recorded when neurons fire output signals, but now with a new glutamate indicator, they can record the many inputs that causes cells to fire. 🧵
