Hiii! 👋

I'm not great at using social media consistently, but I'm happy to be here!

I post weekly life recaps to my blog along with occasional topic posts, often something finance or early retirement related but sometimes just hobbies.

I'd love if you checked it out!

As you’re cleaning tomorrow , be sure to clean out those old screenshots, text messages, DMs, mindsets, attitudes, and thoughts that no longer serve you.

Decluttering includes your mind.

We saw one of these little guys in the woods today for the first time this year. ☺️ If you see one, please don’t pick them up! Aside from the danger of falling, their skin is highly porous so you can unintentionally make them sick from the oils, salt, bug spray, sunblock, etc. on your hands. 🧵

Right?! Flavored varieties are the WORST culprits... we need it to taste like pepper, better add 20 things that vaguely resemble pepper! (oh, maybe sprinkle some actual pepper in there too... maybe.)

I don't blame folks for not eating healthy nowadays 🫠 It's a worthy struggle, but still a struggle!

Since she wasn't throwing up, she figured it was fine. Her guardian knew about overuse risks in general but thought it was like 200mg ibuprofen where it's q4h prn so they'd never looked into it closely. Many people are accidentally ignorant! Others willfully ignore it bc they don't grasp the risk.

Extremely important! I had a student tell me she takes Naproxen every couple hours when she has period cramps... it's an every 8-12hr medicine, she was taking probably 4x the dosage 4 days a month, and she had no idea abt potential organ dmg; she thought it would make her throw up if it was bad.

Important topic! I have heard on occasion from people (adults) who are taking pain medication things like "My body needs a lot" & "It's never been a problem to take this much." This is when I pause (or get them to pause) & take a moment for a warm but firm medication safety talk :)
My youngest had his wisdom teeth removed this week which led to a good conversation about the medications he was supposed to be taking while I was a work, what times and what they’re for. He may have it clearer than my husband now!

You're probably taking over-the-counter painkillers incorrectly
People often use the wrong painkiller or take too much too quickly, increasing the risk of side effects, say pharmacists. Here are safer and more effective ways to take drugs like Advil and Tylenol.

I often buy the different flavored kit kats so this is a good warning for me but I'm sorry for your experience 😅

This was the ONLY brand of frozen french fries that has just potatoes and oil as ingredients. The only one at any of our local grocery stores! Why is it so hard to find things without fillers?!

(they are really good though, thankfully!)

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr will require all new vaccines to undergo placebo testing, WaPo reports
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

Finally went to Jo-Ann's this past weekend and had to face the fact that it is closing and just... walked around for awhile. Stocked up.

Is it weird to mourn a store? It had been the source, nearly the only source, of all my creative endeavours for 13 years.

Next month it will be gone forever.

I made a spreadsheet of the cheapest version of all the foods we buy, e.g. whether Kroger or Walmart had the cheapest buttermilk, but now I'm going back and trying to find the cheapest *healthy* version, with the least filler ingredients, and... yikes. Everything has added chemicals, it seems like.

Investing is really hard! Everyone says it's "set it and forget it" but deciding WHAT to set it in is difficult, and you have to decide how much stocks vs bonds vs cash and you have to learn what stocks and bonds even are, so like. Don't feel bad if it seems complex! It is, but you can still do it.

Extreme Couponing was a fake, staged show, and most stores don't allow doubling or pay overages anymore so even if it did work then, it won't work now.

But if you save just $5 a week on groceries that's $260/yr, which is less than the cost of a new car battery so like, it's worth saving!

"Fresh produce is healthier than frozen!" is also a lie as a blanket saying. There are tons of studies that essentially say it works out the same. Some nutrients are lost when freezing, but "fresh" store product usually isn't that fresh, local may not be picked at peak ripeness, etc. Frozen is fine!

I'm just gonna go full stream of consciousness mode and post whatever things I think of.

For starters, did you know buying bulk isn't always cheaper? If you look at the price per oz, sometimes the bigger packs are more expensive! Also Sam's club is often WAY more expensive compared to generics!

Some days feel heavier than others — even when we’re doing what we love. 💛
If today was tough, you’re not alone.
Rest. Reset. Tomorrow, we begin again — because caring is what we do.

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner.

Seniors Are More Conservative Because the Poor Die Off
Sometimes older voters aren’t just naturally more conservative. It’s just that wealthier and whiter people tend to live longer and healthier lives.

I've never had an issue losing them, but they can be uncomfortably pinchy. I hear magnetbacks are better! I've gotten mine mostly from Claire's since I'm not a fan of expensive jewelry. Besides the cutesy kiddie ones they sell simple hoops like these for very cheap.
