Hiii! 👋

I'm not great at using social media consistently, but I'm happy to be here!

I post weekly life recaps to my blog along with occasional topic posts, often something finance or early retirement related but sometimes just hobbies.

I'd love if you checked it out!

As you’re cleaning tomorrow , be sure to clean out those old screenshots, text messages, DMs, mindsets, attitudes, and thoughts that no longer serve you.

Decluttering includes your mind.

We saw one of these little guys in the woods today for the first time this year. ☺️ If you see one, please don’t pick them up! Aside from the danger of falling, their skin is highly porous so you can unintentionally make them sick from the oils, salt, bug spray, sunblock, etc. on your hands. 🧵

Important topic! I have heard on occasion from people (adults) who are taking pain medication things like "My body needs a lot" & "It's never been a problem to take this much." This is when I pause (or get them to pause) & take a moment for a warm but firm medication safety talk :)
My youngest had his wisdom teeth removed this week which led to a good conversation about the medications he was supposed to be taking while I was a work, what times and what they’re for. He may have it clearer than my husband now!

You're probably taking over-the-counter painkillers incorrectly
People often use the wrong painkiller or take too much too quickly, increasing the risk of side effects, say pharmacists. Here are safer and more effective ways to take drugs like Advil and Tylenol.

This was the ONLY brand of frozen french fries that has just potatoes and oil as ingredients. The only one at any of our local grocery stores! Why is it so hard to find things without fillers?!

(they are really good though, thankfully!)

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr will require all new vaccines to undergo placebo testing, WaPo reports
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

Finally went to Jo-Ann's this past weekend and had to face the fact that it is closing and just... walked around for awhile. Stocked up.

Is it weird to mourn a store? It had been the source, nearly the only source, of all my creative endeavours for 13 years.

Next month it will be gone forever.

I made a spreadsheet of the cheapest version of all the foods we buy, e.g. whether Kroger or Walmart had the cheapest buttermilk, but now I'm going back and trying to find the cheapest *healthy* version, with the least filler ingredients, and... yikes. Everything has added chemicals, it seems like.

I'm just gonna go full stream of consciousness mode and post whatever things I think of.

For starters, did you know buying bulk isn't always cheaper? If you look at the price per oz, sometimes the bigger packs are more expensive! Also Sam's club is often WAY more expensive compared to generics!

Some days feel heavier than others — even when we’re doing what we love. 💛
If today was tough, you’re not alone.
Rest. Reset. Tomorrow, we begin again — because caring is what we do.

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner.

Seniors Are More Conservative Because the Poor Die Off
Sometimes older voters aren’t just naturally more conservative. It’s just that wealthier and whiter people tend to live longer and healthier lives.

A Big Mac meal is $12.99 ??????

Minimum wage is still $7.25 ?????

So I tried to make an Instagram account months ago and it wanted my cellphone. Didn't want to attach that so I used a burner number. Then it wanted a VERIFICATION SELFIE. Which I definitely did not want to do. So they eventually just permanently disabled the account and I can't reuse my email. 😶

I have all the grace in the world for latecomers, it's all hands.

I also know that folks who didn't give a shit until it hurt them ain't my fucking brethren; we can have a shared aim and walk together for as long as it lasts. I can be polite to a mercenary, knowing their rules.

They're not trusted

Despite being a nurse, I haven't had bloodwork in 9yrs... after calling 40 Drs, they all either did not take my insurance or were not accepting new patients and, since I have a HDHP, I don't have a set PCP + working 8-5 Mon-Fri makes appts impossible.

So. Despite knowing better, I can't do better.

Whew! It was a good Spring Break while it lasted. I didn't get a whole lot done re:productivity, but I did finally actually relax and play some games and spend time with family, which is moreso the point of a Spring /Break/ anyway, I think.

Back to work tomorrow! #schoolnurse

The average age of retirement is 67. The average life span is 76.

The idea of working 50 years for 9 years of freedom in old age is.... a trap.

We have to shift this mindset ASAP.
