This thread makes a point I find myself coming to often these days.

It's hard to make this point in a way that doesn't sound like a threat, but it's just a fact that for centuries the wealthy in America worried that the mob would come get them and did all they could to avoid that fate.
lol what the wealthy today don't seem to understand is part of staying wealthy in society is not pissing off the masses.

There's a reason why Carnegie and the Rockefellers poured money into institutions. Gutting institutions and making it harder for the masses to survive is a...choice.

Then white Americans realized that the nutrition programs were also feeding little Black children and it all went to hell. But once upon a time we realized that the strength of a nation is in a populace that feeds everyone.

Not only is it going to be a hunger crisis, it's going to be a farm crisis. All those gallons of milk bought from dairy farmers, all the produce, all the on sale ground beef and packs of chicken that are paid for by SNAP are subsidies to farmers who don't qualify for commodities subsidies.
I love love love my rice cooker.

The knife was weird to me. I don't care for that style, so I don't have one. And I am confident my wicked sharp chef's knife cuts my veggies just fine.

GOOD NEWS! A new cancer vaccine has shown progress in triggering POWERFUL and LASTING immune responses in patients with pancreatic AND colorectal cancer. The vaccine, known as ELI-002 2P, targets mutant KRAS proteins AND had a huge impact on PREVENTING or DELAYING cancer recurrence in patients.
My god don't we have ENOUGH sex pests and arseholes and bigots/racists/sexists here???

A few people hoarding all the resources is not sound economic policy 😕

What's missing isn't supply,
it's solidarity.

That's actually not what eliminated means.

Your larger point still stands, though it was lack of insurance suppressing vaccination in the very young that drove things until 8-10 years ago.

Sadly these stats are much harder to find now. Lack of insurance is still a huge factor though.

Black and Brown people. PLEASE, PLEASE for the love of us all do not allow yourself to be interviewed if SNAP benefits don't come on November 1. Make the white folks do the interviews. They love getting Black folks to do these interviews so that people think we are the only ones hurt.

(Anyone out there have $500,000 to give to a little church near Montreal that's suddenly finding itself full of children and refugees? Or $50,000? Or $5000??)

"Andy Ngo and other far right extremists have been targeting Avalos since at least as early as July and trying to paint her as violent and a 'member of Antifa.' On court record, Ngo has admitted that his social media posts can lead to violence."

It's projection from the right. All the way down.
Portland City Councilor @counciloravalos.bsky.social woke up to her car and home engulfed in flames late last night. She had to grab her cat and escape to safety.
Also, *active duty* military families and many veteran families depend on food stamps and food banks.
It's not that she tries. It's that she *succeeds*.
Okay so obviously it's Florida, and the politics of this are VILE and these people are NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

But I don't *hate* the idea itself, on the face of it. Especially as a mom of a soon to be grad student, an undergrad, and a dual enrollment HS student.
that's a great idea! Though many of them are based on canned goods, and might be difficult to split in half.
If you google "Dollar Tree Meals" lots of folks have put together easy, feeds four, shelf stable meals that fit in a gallon plastic zip bag.

Those are great to leave in the little pantries.

This is correct.

His cult keeps saying “well, he was elected president, he doesn’t have to follow the rules now” but the correct attitude is “well, he was elected president, and therefore he has to follow the rules.”

He even swore an oath to do that. Honest!
He was elected president, and as president, his highest duty is to ensure that the laws of the land be executed faithfully. His job is to uphold the constitutional order, not tear it down and remake it in his image.
17.

Houston, we have a problem. Also Dallas and Phoenix.

Defining 'been to' as actually spending time in the city itself. If you count just the airport it's all 20. And dozens of others as well.

There is a not very good fantasy series I read as a kid by an author who was revealed to be a terrible person well after I read the books, but there's a line in it that goes something like "adding to the palace gives weak kings something to do".

Anyway the planned ballroom looks ugly.
That’s not nearly enough!!
May the odds be ever in your favor.
