I mean, not just Jewish siblings but all of us who draw from the great European/ME mishmash. One of my sisters is blonde and blue eyed like me; the other is dark haired and dark eyed. None of us, to our mother's abiding grief, got the red hair (my mom is basically a carbon copy of her brother).

(The red hair comes from both sides of the family, as do the noses, lol)

My uncle and his wife, both Ashkenazi Jews

(Yes my uncle is also half Tuscan, this is par for the course)
Hugh Wolff in concert dress (red hair, bright blue eyes) Judy Kogan with her harp (black hair, dark eyes)

This is my shocked face (that the promised cash and tickets never materialized)

Trump promised free plane tickets and $1,000 “exit bonuses” to immigrants who opted to self-deport.

ProPublica spoke to a dozen Venezuelan immigrants who said they followed the president’s instructions, yet never received the promised assistance.
“I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore”: They Tried to Self-Deport, Then Got Stranded in Trump’s America
Venezuelan immigrants signed up for a Trump-promoted app called CBP Home, which promised a safe and easy way to leave the country, and prepared to leave on their given departure dates. Those dates hav...

They may have little traveling altars, those are certainly a thing in some circles.

I'm an Anglican so not familiar with every detail of the Catholic rules, but I've certainly seen Catholic priests celebrate the Eucharist in many places outside church walls, including my cousin's recent wedding in Peru as well as a social justice context like a protest.

Between the sauce, the crumble/crisp, the pie, the cake, and just being eaten, 9lb of apples would last about two days around here at this time of year

was because the land route to the sources of spices had been cut off by the fall of Constantinople in 1453.

I am forty-six years old and considered myself fairly well-informed about history and such, and I just learned from a Mauril video, of all places, that the reason Christopher Columbus was so motivated to do all the "discovering" and colonizing and genociding and stuff,

An altar is never required when you're transporting the already-consecrated host to people who are physically unable to access the sacrament by attending worship, which is what's happening here.

My sister's cat did the exact same thing one time, but they didn't find him inside the couch for like a whole day, and the couch was in the new place already, and she nearly lost her mind.

OF COURSE the next step in the escalation in Portland was a Naked Bike Ride. Love it.
gaudynight78.bsky.social
THIS, EXACTLY

"You're making us all look bad" is one thing, and fairly understandable, when there's literally no infrastructure for bikes. But when the system is rapidly altering itself to accommodate you, there needs to be some accommodation in response!

My grandmother, a full-blooded Tuscan by birth, visited Llandudno circa 1960 when it was advertising itself as "the Naples of the North" and spent the rest of her life jokingly referring to Naples as "the Llandudno of the South."

on a two-lane road where the speed limit is 30km/h. You are not actually that fast.

It makes me SO MAD the way they use the road by the river as their personal practice track when there's a long-established bike path RIGHT THERE.

Like, so sorry that we peons commuting or riding with kids would get in your way, but that still does not give you the right to ride three across

and not just the US immigration system. They think they can just move to Canada whenever they want.

I gotta tell you, the church has been protesting like that for decades. Not sure what the exact combination of factors is that caused it to break containment this time, and the fact that it's finally getting attention is definitely a good thing, but this is not new.

Otherwise all these amazing developments are going to grind to a halt.

We're at the point where we really do need an organized campaign of education and enforcement to teach the bike riders that they (we) are TRAFFIC, and need to act like it and follow the rules.

I, as a cyclist, have been nearly hit, and cursed out, by lycra-clad road warriors ignoring stop signs.
