New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

USAA says it has so far provided $189 million in no-interest loans to 51,000 military members who anticipate not getting their next paychecks on Oct. 15. Screenshot from user banking page.

Stability plays an important role in the financial security of our members - and empowering that security is our mission.
We are now mobilizing across USAA to assist our members during the government shutdown. Our no-interest loan was made available to eligible members on October 8th. Currently, USAA has provided over $189 million in no-interest loans to approximately 51,000 members, with most of the eligible members who applied being approved for the loan.
This loan provides our members with repayment options of 60 to 90 days to allow them more time to ease back into their day-to-day finances.

Luckily (?) I left on a disability retirement....which allows me to make 80% of my former salary and keep my pension and benefits if I can ever return to work (becoming less likely every day I get older and more crippled) That's how I know they know how hard it is to replace that gig.

WGN, this woman’s employer, is now reporting she was not charged with any crimes and was released.

DHS said earlier she was arrested for assault for throwing objects at agents.

Or if it was part of the game he played to figure out which ones he could approach. I grew up with his kid, since 4th grade and have always felt bad for that dude.... anyway, being human is weird. Maybe he was just both, good and bad. Guess I was lucky to just get the good.

And again, I learned a lot from the guy. He started a life long interest in science, which led to me being better at my job and doing decent shit while I could. And I always wondered if he was that nice, engaging and eager to connect with his students because he cared about education and the kids

that one stuck and he did his time, 12 years, and lived out his days quietly and presumably crime free as I never heard about him again. Until I saw that he passed yesterday. His last victim is a friend of mine, every comment on the post about his death a recollection about how good a teacher he was

Conflicted hearing about the death of one of my favorite high school teachers (there weren't many, I dropped out). He was the cool teacher, genuinely engaged us and encouraged learning. Used to say, "Have fun, but get things done." Words I lived by for a long time. Unfortunately, his fun...
