A common mistake many new writers make is crafting a character and then, without story justification or world building to support it, making them heterosexual. This leaves readers confused & takes them out of the story.

In his quest to find his missing sister, he burned down some houses to kill some monsters, which released a serial killer ghost.

To make things worse, the only medium who can help would rather play the cello than save strangers.
