First detected in May 2023 in Lake Karāpiro, a reservoir lake on the Waikato, this bivalve is now altering the river’s chemistry in ways that could jeopardise drinking water for up to two million people, disrupt hydroelectric power and undermine decades of ecosystem restoration efforts.
Gold clam invasion in NZ threatens drinking water for millions of people
The invasion threatens more than water. Clams could foul dam intakes and reduce hydroelectric efficiency in a river that generates 13% of New Zealand’s power.

The abolishment of regional councils will be a significantly expensive exercise for local government.

The rates caps proposal will impose additional costs on local government.

That's two new costs imposed on local government for right wing ideological reasons in just the last week alone.
They would if they could i.e. if Central Government did not keep loading unfunded costs on to them.

How is it even possible for school lunches to be mouldy!!!
Seymour should be eating only mouldy food until he makes school lunches good again. #NZPol

The lunch program Seymour put in place has been an absolute, unmitigated disaster. And likely on purpose, to prove free lunch programs "don't work" and should be stopped forever. It's ridiculous.
CompassNZ is despicable. Taking our tax dollars to provide disgusting mouldy, contaminated food to our children. Read their website, according to CompassNZ they’re “Nourishing Aotearoa’s Future: The School Lunch Collective in Action” The board should be named and shamed for this fiasco. 1/2 #nzpol

Our place isn't visible from the street, so when our soft toys got disappointed that they couldn't take part in the bear hunt, I made a colouring in page of them looking wistfully out the window, and shared it on the local FB page. I did another 2 from photos people sent me of their bears.

My sister called the school yesterday to confirm she'd like him enrolled in that programme and was told it might not be available next year because the new curriculum doesn't include it. 😱😱

Boards Chair here - before our BOT passed a motion affirming our commitment to Te Tiriti, I received emails from parents and teachers urging the board on.

The union never said a word.

Amazing that reaffirming a commitment to Te Tiriti is viewed as "anti-govt" (his words)

Despite warnings, between 1 Feb – 3 Oct 2023, 26 inspections found effluent being discharged from a piggery to adjacent land then flowing into streams that flow to the Waihou River. Yes, they’ve been fined, but it's repeated environmental & health vandalism and the piggery can still operate 🧵

Hang on, is this about NZ or the USA?
This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office
2) Elected officials rewrite rules in the donors' favor
3) Donors make huge profit
4) Repeat

We must get big money out of politics.

It is the root of our dysfunction.
