Attended fundraisers for 2 great orgs today—the HALO lunch for HomeAid Houston and Voices for Hope for Avenue 360 tonight. Both are vital support for homeless in our region, but much more. (The lovely Deborah Duncan is always up for a good cause.)

My favorite thing to do in the fall is to spend an entire day soaking beans and slow cooking a hearty, truly delicious soup, eat it once and then leave it on a burner to evaporate into charred dust, setting off all the smoke alarms and summoning the neighbors to your house.
