He has made some mistakes, he has also had some tactical moves and game plans over the last 4 postseasons that have just straight up won them games and series. But it is hilarious to your point to look at over managers and go “he is overmatched”

There’s not many avenues for trades after the Duran move, the FA market is not great in the outfield, and yeah, they need some change somewhere. Bohm had some decent swings and good ABs against LAD I guess but he just doesn’t seem like a championship player to me
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
I think one of Bohm, Marsh, or Stott should get moved but Marsh is probably the best (and most important) player of the three. Stott’s market is the least certain one way or another. Bohm is just there I guess. He’s fine

This kind of makes the return extremely important, especially since the plan would probably be Crawford (who might really struggle offensively in year 1). I also don’t love paying (a potentially aging) Bader to do this.

There’s a lot of good in what Marsh did this year. He put up his most sustainable projected numbers, cut his K% down by 6.5%, and is going to be 28 next year.

And if he moves back to LF full time, you’re looking at like a 3ish win player give or take.

He has flaws but he’s a good player

I’m open to trading Marsh but I also have a few questions with it

This framing really is a double-edged sword for the MLBPA. Probably not in the union's interest for teams to decide they can win with "Average Joes" instead of highly paid stars
Such a scenario would not scare the union off its half-century-old anti-cap stance. The MLBPA has no intention of negotiating if a cap remains on the table, and considering MLB was on the cusp of losing games in 2022 because of a negotiation that didn't include a cap, players already have spoken among themselves about how to weather missing time in 2027. Certainly, the Brewers winning wouldn't ensure avoiding that, but if in any argument about the necessity of a cap, the union can counter that the juggernaut Dodgers lost to a team of self-proclaimed Average Joes with a payroll a quarter of the size, it reinforces the point that team-building acumen can exist regardless of financial might.

I know there are opinions about Kevin Long, but he is respected and they Phillies made actual approach changes this year that led to 96 wins. But like you can't risk Cotham leaving and are you going to fire your manager and then tie one arm behind the back of the search process?
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
Change some of the players
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
The Phillies should be able to get whoever they want if Thomson is fired but there are 8 other jobs available and at least 4 of them are with teams who are trying to compete next year

Murakami’s contact rate this year was 63.9%. The last qualified hitter to have a rate that low was 2022 Luke Voit. Idk man.
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
He’s young and is a big name but I would probably stay far away from Murakami this offseason. I don’t really see him translating to the states

not sure how much this matters in the discussion but this probably isn't the year to be looking for a manager outside of Bochy (does he even want to do it again?). A lot of jobs and not a lot of amazing candidates
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
I think Topper is staying. Turner’s quotes were big and I think the way they played in LAD saved any doubt.

The only names I would actually be happy with are Yaidi Molina or Bochy.
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
There will be changes, should be changes, probably some kind of trade to shake up the lineup (although they faced amazing pitching like you said)...

But I feel a lot better about the group. These last two games showed something even if they lost.
anthonyesbensen.bsky.social
There are no *good* options at this point.

I would walk Hernandez. Don’t care about logic

Don’t think anyone should be questioning going to Luzardo here
