Re-intro time. I'm a forensic psychologist & train clinicians doing mental health services w/ people in the legal system. Big into making science accessible & transparent, mentoring w/ kindness, & checking our biases in evaluations.

Also ❤️ food & am thrilled when I get to combine that w/ work!
Oh to be alive for those central-right arguments of unjust discrimination to consider anything about the scientist that’s not the science itself. I wonder what life was like back in 2023.

Kai's write up and @cailinmeister.bsky.social's thread do a great job of summarizing our results. Rather than cover them a third time, I thought I'd clarify some misconceptions over our piece and COIS more broadly that keep cropping up scattered across replies. 🧵🧪
One of the issues that has come up again and again in my reporting on misinformation and social media is the massive influence social media companies have on research in the field.

Last night a preprint dropped that tries to get at this with some numbers. My piece in @science.org (and 🧪🧵 coming):
Nearly a third of social media research has undisclosed ties to industry, preprint claims
Industry-linked studies were also more likely to focus on particular topics, suggesting these ties may be skewing the field

Data suggest the salmon chowder was a hit:

1) All adults went for seconds
2) The baby put more in his mouth than on our pants
3) The 4 y/o’s complaint was that hers ran out of salmon

I’m getting word that more & more clinical psych PhD candidates are staying put where they did internship for postdoc (at least the city/town), and to that I say: we have more to do on this whole system, but I’m so proud of you.

Thinking about the destruction of public health and how it boils down to Republicans deciding to experiment with the health of hundreds of millions of us.

Thom Tillis (R, Invertebrate):

“The main reason I supported Kennedy was because Bill Cassidy thought that we should see how it plays out”.

Haha thank you. It was a similarly “fun” write! Fascism is a pretty big buzzkill, but the issues need to be raised regardless.

It's why "don't let others take my joy" became a key principle for me: I fell in a hole of feeling if I didn't share/post on the latest atrocity, I shouldn't post the lil things I like b/c it'd seem like I don't care. Why be consumed by what to say & what not to say? People who'll judge will judge.
my hot take is that I don't think it's this website specifically that's toxic. the Circumstances are toxic and nobody really knows what to do about it so they come online and scream. and if I may offer an alternative: actually going outside and screaming feels better.

Did not think I'd witness a Nature journal publish a piece calling the US a fascist country in the title / abstract.

Thanks to Lauren and the rest of the team for picking up this crucial fight — in this paper and elsewhere. Please read and share widely.

Can’t tell how much of it is the increased chaos & noise from age 3 to 4 vs. having a second child, but after 2-plus weeks on holiday my reaction to returning to work tomorrow is Oh Good I Can Finally Get Some Rest.

And now for 2026
I've tried to follow 3 intertwined principles in 2025 & have been reminded of them more than ever this week:

1) Don't get numb to the pain of others
2) Don't let others take my joy
3) Be kind to others & myself
