Today is International #SafeAbortion Day.

Access to safe abortion protects the health of women and girls.

As with all other health services, women and girls should be able to access safe and respectful abortion care, when they need it, without fear of harm, punishment or recrimination.

B is for... Blue morpho butterfly!

These butterflies live in the rainforests of South America and can have a wingspan of up to 20cm. If you look closely you can see the outline of the eye spots that are on the other side of their wings.

I had to read this thread so now the rest of you do too
Oh this explains why people are all up in my rabies thread again.

This is a PSA:
DO NOT TOUCH WILDLIFE. THAT MEANS YOU SHOULD NOT BREASTFEED INJURED BATS. JUST STOP. YOU DON'T WANT RABIES. RABIES IS BAD. WE HAVE MADE GREAT STRIDES WITH MANY OTHER DISEASES BUT NOT THAT ONE SO LEAVE THE BATS ALONE.
I feel it says something about us here as a group that the thread with the single greatest longevity I’ve ever been involved with was “for the love of god, stop breastfeeding rabies vectors.”
Back from two months of Greenland fieldwork! Managed to not lose my mind next to the big ice cube, saw the northern lights, and most importantly collected good data and noticed interesting eco patterns of my new freshwater study system! Now time to make sense of everything!

#ESEB2025 Very concentrated looks when @shikharabhat.bsky.social educates us about pop noise! One of the last talks I could attend, sorry I had to leave early (planned, still 🫤) The lab's presence continues without me so grab them for a science chat!
