We have to listen to bigoted handwringing about how we have to abandon trans people and marginalized communities and immigrants while the clearest election winning message is right there.
"Do the rich have too much political power?"

Yes: 80%
No: 8%

I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

I do think that some people who didn’t experience being Bad at Math in the 2000s and 2010s are probably really underrating how demeaning that experience was at the time
speaking on the basis of being a humanities type who struggled with math (until I learned to program later on) who felt that society was giving me a constant message in the 2000s that I was a worthless parasite who would die in a ditch on that basis alone

Also while im on my classic Hollywood shit:

The death of judy garland is often told through the lens of drug addiction but it should also be seen as a result of fatphobia. She had a default larger build and was pressured into anorexia, bulimia, and pills to be skinnier. Weight culture killed her.

The work prep/well-rounded education discourse is pretty astounding to me. The most mercenary student/graduate/admin should absolutely be interested in well-rounded education FOR mercenary reasons because the economy is so dynamic.

You don't know what you need for work until you hire your weakness.

I'm starting to really believe that the only way to get a runaway success is for companies to fund like 20 new projects, 19 of them will either fail or make no impression, and then the 20th will resonate with audiences and create tons of merch opportunities like Bluey or KPop Demon Hunters

I self-harm by watching MSNBC. (Like Phillip Morris, they can change the name, but I'm going to remember who they are and what they did.) They just ran an ad for a website that sells iron-on graphic transfers for clothing. That's all the website sells, is custom iron-on graphic transfers. TV's dying

I had an acting teacher who always told us "if you're one-in-a-million, there's 9 of you in NYC." So I did the math one day figuring if I wrote something that only appealed to me, if I was the one-in-a-million who liked the story, about how many people would that be worldwide?

It's like 8000 people
You should write weird, human stuff as a fuck-you to AI and the awful world we live in, yes, but also because you will be changed and your life will be changed through allowing yourself to be vulnerable and uncomfortable in your art.

Also I want to re-up this part of the essay because I think it's one of the most important points I make. The most popular stat used to argue the "they/them" ad worked? It can't be verified or independently evaluated.
When I was researching this essay I was struck by the fact that a key piece of evidence used to support the idea that the "they/them" ad was decisive is, apparently, unverifiable to the public.

That inconvenience didn't stop a stampede of people waving the 2.7% figure around like a bloody shirt.

The basic arrogance of the billionaire class, that it is their right to utterly destroy the world the rest of us built, and to replace it with a crappy simulacrum of human society that we will all be obligated--and they WILL try and obligate AI use--is the most infuriating part of our dysfunction.

It’s so nuts that some indie publishers make u crowdfund ur own book tho like what service are they providing in that case

This is the inevitable consequence of rejecting the existence of trans people: unrestrained biological essentialism, paternalist meddling & the diminishment of women. They will now invent reasons that everyone "needs" to know what your AGAB is, because the state requires it for some invented reason.
