POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

This shit about “Bari Weiss is a feminist girlboss” is actually the logical conclusion of allowing DEI to be a substitute for actual structural change to end white supremacy and patriarchy

The father—who's lived in the U.S. for over two decades and has an active asylum application—was reportedly driving with his daughter when he called his wife and said someone seemed to be following them.

When they got home, agents got hold of the child. trib.al/VFuC1v3

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

The circumstances of Mr. Escobar's arrest are even worse than the brief summary above. He repeatedly tried to tell the immigration officials that he had papers while they were arresting him.

In response, a federal agent said "No you don't. You are illegal," and "Shut up, bitch! You're illegal."
For example, on August 21, 2025, plain-clothed and unidentified federal agents arrested Mr. Escobar Molina without a warrant while he was getting in his truck to go to work. They did not ask for his name or his identification or ask anything about his immigration status, where he lives, whom he lives with, how long he has lived here, or anything else about his ties to the community. The agents immediately handcuffed Mr. Escobar Molina, grabbed him by the arms and legs, and called him “illegal” repeatedly. When he responded that he has “papers” (in other words, immigration status), they replied, “No you don’t. You are illegal.” After the agents put Mr. Escobar Molina into a vehicle, when Mr. Escobar Molina told them again that he had “papers,” the driver of the car yelled at him, “Shut up, bitch! You’re illegal.” The agents did not make an individualized determination about Mr. Escobar Molina’s immigration status or flight risk before they arrested him. While Mr. Escobar Molina was in detention, ICE fingerprinted and interviewed [excerpt ends there].

The offer made to women in the enticement to become trad wives is the same as the offer made to citizens in the enticement to embrace authoritarianism: give up. Abandon the aspiration to self rule. It’s imprisonment recast as rest and relief.

TIME IS A FLAT CIRCLE EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN
An excerpt from the New Yorker "Talk of the Town" essay that compiled contributions from New York writers reacting to the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers.

I've highlighted the following text:

"Those in public office have let us know that they consider their task to be a manipulative one: confidence-building and grief management. Politics, the politics of a democracy—which entails disagreement, which promotes candor—has been replaced by psychotherapy. Let’s by all means grieve together. But let’s not be stupid together. A few shreds of historical awareness might help us understand what has just happened, and what may continue to happen."

The article continues:

"'Our country is strong,' we are told again and again. I for one don't find this entirely consoling. Who doubts America is strong? But that's not all America has to be."
LRT got me thinking about the time Susan Sontag got nationally raked over the coals because of the eminently reasonable (and frankly? just correct) piece she wrote for the New Yorker in the wake of 9/11. We really never metabolized that as a country lol.

It is wild that Charlie Kirk of all things is becoming *the* litmus test.

Even just talking about the event publicly without a sufficient supply of sackcloth and ashes is cast as "promoting political violence." I haven't seen this kind of mandatory performance of allegiance and piety since 9/11.
