We really don’t, but Santa Barbara is also WAY expensive. We lived there until recently, and I kept having to change doctors because they kept moving somewhere cheaper.
We could only afford to be there because we had 2 incomes. We eventually left because we had no chance of affording a house there.

I know of two different teachers here in Santa Barbara who live in their cars. In one case the school is aware and lets him run an extension cable out to his van at night.
