How did we allow this to happen? Do you think give a fascist authoritarian legal dominion over the country through an election had something to do with making all this far worse? I know the parties are the same and everything, but I can't the feeling that there's a correlation.

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

I think she'd be our first indigenous woman senator, and I also think she's kind of great (and who can resist "fish family freedom" as a slogan?).
My name is Mary Peltola, and I'm running for U.S. Senate to fight for fish, family, and freedom – and that begins with fixing the rigged system in DC that’s shutting down Alaska.

We need systemic change if we're going to lower costs, save our fisheries, and fill our homes with abundance again.

Such a clear crystallization of Trumpism as a political project: Redraw the lines of who belongs, who is legitimate, who is part of the “Volk.”

And if they decide you are not, you have forfeited not only your rights and protections as a citizen, but also your humanity, your very right to live.
When the State Terrorizes the People

The killing of Renee Good reveals, yet again, Trumpism’s violent, authoritarian essence. MAGA is at war with the reality of American society.

Desperate to make a world good enough that politics stops being everyone’s personality
January 10, 2026 at 7:07 PM
The 'stop hitting yourself' mode of politics is one where the aggressor is not trying to convince you of something, but instead trying to prove that they have enough power that they don't need to be persuasive at all. We can't let that shit stand.

I share the fury @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social expresses here at Biden and other centrist Dems for squandering the best opportunity we've had in decades to weaken police power in America. And all the pro-police rhetoric didn't help electorally either. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/the-conseq...

Road builders in Brazil dismantle ancient coastal middens in the 1940s-'50s. Random bones and artifacts sent to local museum, boxes stored for decades without being studied. Now, researchers finally look and discover oldest-known whale harpoons, pointing to Indigenous open-sea whaling 5000 yrs ago!
In a new study, researchers from @uab.cat claim people have been whaling for almost 5,000 years – and that the earliest evidence comes from the warm coastal waters of Brazil, not the Arctic. www.science.org/content/arti... @science.org

American Samoans aren't even second-class citizens like other territorial residents -- we deny them citizenship entirely. It is an egregious injustice that the people of American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam and the Northern Marianas have no voice in their government.
American Samoans, unique among *everyone* born in US states or territories, are denied US citizenship.

That means they are banned from voting.

That's made some a target of vicious GOP prosecution for fraud; even if they were told incorrect info from public officials.

A Republican elected official proudly declaring he has no problem with agents of the state shooting unarmed citizens in the face if they annoy the regime.

It is impossible to make democracy work with a party that not only tolerates people like this, but elevates them to positions of influence.
Rep. Randy Fine: "If you impede the actions of our law enforcement as they seek to repel foreign invaders from our country, you get what's coming to you. I do not feel bad for the woman that was involved."
