Hi, I'm Ben ✌🏻

🚲 I cycle by default.
🎵 I play the cello.
✝️ I'm a Christian.
❤️ I live with Ellie and two mini-mes.

Video has the power to change the world, for better or for worse. It can tear down, or it can build up. It can speak truth to power, or it can spread fake news.…

Church of England & other Christian denominations seek to "confront and resist the capture of Christian language and symbols by populist forces seeking to exploit the faith for their own political ends.”

City: We unanimously declare a climate emergency! We must make change no matter what the cost, humanity's survival depends on it!

Community: Can we put in a protected bike lane to get more people cycling.

City: No, we'll lose parking spots.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

I loved Wicked: For Good but can we spare a thought for Keala Settle, performing the tiny non-singing headteacher(?) role in the first film and entirely absent from the second, when she would have been a MUCH better choice for Madam Morrible?

As someone who lives in a city that's big but not NEW YORK big, it's funny to imagine someone seeing a chain pop up in Manchester and just assuming it started here.
It's like the story taught in globalization class about the children who visit the US and say "mom, dad, there's McDonald's in America too!".

(Eataly is an Italian chain. Its HQ and first branch are in Torino.)
This, in Rome’s Termini Station, is an undeniable New York City cultural victory but also feels weird

Toddler: What's that noise?
Me: I don't know, a dog?
Toddler: Oh! It's a blender!
Me: I don't think it -
Toddler: EVERYONE'S doing it
Me: Everyone's doing what? Blending?
Toddler: Yeh

Friendly reminder that Hannah Cox, a woman who did not call herself a runner this time last year, is currently a third of the way through 100 marathons in 100 days, raising £1 million for the planet.

She's doing it to make a difference and prove what's possible, and she's absolutely smashing it.

"They include breaking the link between the cost of renewable energy and the globally traded price of gas which, he says, would have saved more than £43billion over the past five years alone."
This is how we bring our energy bills down - reform our rip-off energy market, it’s impoverishes millions and holds back our economy - our new report shows. Read all about it at Babelfish.news

Cheaper than heating the house.

Other than that, I would NOT recommend this as a home working setup.

Crocs were a bad idea. Jeans were a bad idea. Coffee was a VERY bad idea.

Might catch on as a money saving hack, though - depending how the Budget goes... 👀

Tech question for the Bluesky hive mind.

If a power bank isn't providing power and isn't lighting up when plugged in (even overnight) is it a lost cause or is there some way I can revive it?

It's only two and a half years old (with a two-year warranty, naturally).
