Two victims of previous school shootings — Mia Tretta, who was shot in the stomach in 2019 at Saugus High School, and Zoe Weissman, who survived the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — are now at Brown. Gun violence is out of control in this country.

"What’s better: masking, washing your hands, social distance, or something else?" There’s no perfect way to prevent all viruses, especially as case rates are high in the winter. Layering your protection is the best way to protect yourself and others!
Should I be... wearing masks, washing my hands, disinfecting my home, social distancing, using air purifiers, getting vaccinated, or something else to protect myself from viruses? First, it’s important to understand: how viruses spread from person to person Airborne Transmission Virus particles linger in the air, and another person is infected by inhaling the particles. This can occur even if you are not close to the infected person and sometimes even if the person has already left the room. Droplet Transmission Another person releases particles from their body in ways like by coughing, sneezing, or talking, and these particles infect another person. This requires being close to the infected person. Direct Contact Virus is spread by directly touching an infected person in ways like touching, hugging, kissing, or sexual contact. Indirect contact Virus particles from an infected person are spread to an object, like a doorknob or countertop (these are called fomites), then another person becomes infected by touching that object and getting the particles into their eyes, nose, or mouth. Some viruses spread through only a few of these methods. Others can spread through all four! Because most viruses spread in multiple ways, it’s best to use Multiple Layers of Protection masking and clean air help prevent airborne infection from an infected person who is still nearby or who has already left the area, by blocking particles from entering your body (masks) or by reducing the amount of virus in the air (ventilation & air purifiers). Social distancing helps prevent being infected by droplets from an infected person nearby, and often lowers the amount of virus in the air near you.Handwashing & disinfecting surfaces help reduce your risk of becoming infected from touching a contaminated surface. Vaccines Help prevent infection and/or serious illness, regardless of how you are exposed to the virus! But which method will best protect me? It depends on the virus. It depends on the virus. Some viruses, like COVID-19 and measles, spread mostly through the air (although this is not the only way they spread!), so masking consistently is most important. December 6, 1989: 14 women were shot to death at Université de Montréal’s École Polytechnique. Thirteen others were injured. The shooter - who died by suicide - claimed he was ‘fighting feminism’.

They are listed in alphabetical order: Genevieve Bergeron, 21: A second-year scholarship student in mechanical engineering. She played the clarinet and sang in a professional choir. In her spare time she played basketball and swam. Helene Colgan, 23: Was in her final year of mechanical engineering and planned to do her master's degree. She had three job offers and was leaning toward accepting one from a company based near Toronto. Nathalie Croteau, 23: Was another graduating mechanical engineer. She planned to take a two-week vacation in Cancun, Mexico, with Colgan at the end of the month. Barbara Daigneault, 22: Was to graduate at the end of the year. She was a teaching assistant for her father Pierre, a mechanical engineering professor with the city's other French-language engineer-ing school at the Universite de Quebec à Montréal.
