Maps like this suck. They imply climate change will flood vast swathes of the country very soon. Climate change will (and does) cause more flooding, but flooding is not about whether land is below high tide...

... but didn't mention their decision to use private finance to fund them 🧐

Why? Are they ashamed of their plan to resurrect the corpse of PFI in our NHS? They should be. #AutumnBudget

I don't think it's a coincidence this comes after @defendourjuries.bsky.social and wider public knowledge of juries' right to acquit according to conscience.
Conspiracy brain talking, perhaps, but I wouldn't be shocked if this was to try and stop protestors - Palestine-supporting and climate activist ones in particular - from having a chance to evade prison after the many rightful Ls the governments taken on jury trials so far...
Imagine coming up with a proposal so stupid, so unworkable, so thoughtless, that it makes Robert Jenrick look sane by comparison.

A 70-room “boutique roadside destination” motel with diner is proposed for the Shores Green A40 junction on the edge of Witney. The junction is currently being rebuilt to have west-facing slip roads at a cost of £26m.

Why is the press so keen to pretend climate change is not that urgent while inventing scenarios out of nothing to get scared about?
When it comes to modern war, Ireland is a high-value target: its waters on the western fringe of Europe contain three-quarters of all undersea cables in the northern hemisphere. Despite this, is unprotected and unprepared.

How is this not the top story on every news bulletin?
This has been happening for years and instead of doing anything to protect children successive governments have made the situation worse. This isn't just on councils. It is part of failings on a State level.

the cheapest thing the government could do is fully nationalise all modes of rail and make them free to use. it's legit such a huge multiplying effect on so many other issues, the country would save money and it would spur growth economically, socially and improve mental health.

G20 DECLARATION: Fascinating to see this doc explicitly "welcome" the "global stocktake" from COP28, which included the call to "transition away from fossil fuels"…

This comes after it proved impossible to secure similar language at COP30, which was also chaired by Brazil

The entire UK energy system makes me so mad. Introduce everyone who made this insane system to The Wall.
There’s some very bad news hidden in the Ofgem price cap for January announced yesterday: the electricity to gas price ratio has jumped to 4.67, its highest level since before the energy crisis.

This is a big barrier to households adopting heat pumps in Britain, and threatens our climate goals
