for the record, this is increasingly my hypothesis for many a region's economy. This sort of consolidated economic power would explain regional stagnation in wages across more than one industry. KC had this with tech for ~3 decades because of Cerner. I'm not shocked similar happens with services.

No wonder he came to believe that he didn’t need to be a duplicitous scheming party vizier like Stalin. He literally was That Guy. His own haters in Petrograd literally reported as much. He showed up and everyone immediately gets their shit together, even as British tanks are visible from the city.

You have been told to be calm, to maintain the faith, and to be loyal to the party for close to 20 years and now they can’t even properly condemn serial murder in the ocean nor the wildcat internment camps here at home. You don’t even know if they’ll let you vaccinate your own kids a year from now.

At the beginning of the drone war in the early 2000s, people fretted that the fact it was on the screen, you weren’t looking at a human being through a rifle sight, would end up making troops completely desensitized to the fact that they were killing people.

Anyways, they watched them for 41 min.
I mean, this is an execution

One of the things that came out of Nuremberg in particular is the doctrine of command responsibility, that is, if your subordinates commit war crimes, and you don’t immediately arrest them, you too are culpable.

i am struck, again, by that essential distinction between physical and moral courage. whatever physical courage admiral bradley may have, he appears to possess none of the latter.
The boat was split in half. 9 men were dead. 2 more clung to a floating piece of wreckage and tried desperately to flip it over for 41 minutes straight. There was no possible way they were going anywhere.

Then they were killed in cold blood by the U.S. military.

It was physically impossible for that boat to reach anywhere close to the United States, even before it was a flaming upside-down wreck, and Tom Cotton knows that. He's not that stupid, he just thinks everyone else is. This kind of dishonesty is inseparable from egotistical arrogance.
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."

The CIA recruited a child and trained him to be an assassin
Its yesterdays new by now, but someone in my Discord realized something about the Afghan shooter recently

It's widely reported that he was recruited by the CIA in 2011 for a death squad. It was also widely reported that he's 29. It is NOT widely reported that that means he was 15 at the time.

this thread is great.

also praising government efficiency in the trump era as dunkelman does without mentioning that DOGE murdered 600k people and counting is...it's not good.

it's kind of like pointing to the final solution as a model of can do government. 1
There is such a thirst in some progressive centrist circles that they will look at the Trump administration as a model to get things done. I think its worth addressing the argument. This is from Mark Dunkelman, author of the widely praised "Why Nothing Works."
