Mental health is a huge part of Irish culture. It goes against the traditional concept of “brón”, which means “to be sad”.
matthewpb.bsky.social
It’s bad enough foreigners sharing the “the way they say tá brón orm tells us Irish speakers have good mental health” meme without Irish people doing it too!

That was not the act of a child, it’s an insult to call it childish - it was triple distilled misogynistic behaviour.

Joe Brolly says he regrets a 'childish, crude and inappropriate gesture' made on a podcast while talking about the presidential election campaign.

It came after Fine Gael’s candidate Heather Humphreys said the video was 'very misogynistic' and was 'targeted at women'

You can keep potstickers in your freezer and whip up a quick sauce, maybe some sauteed vegetables, in a matter of minutes when you're too tired to cook a real meal. They do not want you to know this.

When in doubt, dumplings for dinner is never the wrong choice
Chengdu style dumplings from The Dumpling Lady's stand in Charlotte. Half of them have already been eaten.

I’m actually surprised Putin hasn‘t gone out of his way to visit *more* ICC member countries that definitely won’t arrest him.

⚡️ EU slams Tajikistan for failing to arrest Putin.

Brussels said Dushanbe violated its obligations under the Rome Statute and reaffirmed “strongest support” for international justice and accountability for all war crimes.

Jim Gavin‘s values were running for president and “Ireland”.

Heather Humphries’ hobbies are people person and hard work.

Fine Gael learning nothing after an undefeated century long presidential election losing streak and running the most Fine Gael person in the world.
bheanilla.bsky.social
Christ almighty. Isn’t she playing the piano in her campaign launch video? Just say that 😭
bheanilla.bsky.social
See that to me is just ”correct“ in my head, even though if a foreign country calls them PM I don’t mind.

Maybe Germans wouldn’t think the Frau thing is weird but I think most Irish people would!

If I was advising the Connolly campaign, I’d tell them to get Ivan Yeats on the radio and make Fine Gael sound like wankers
drmarymcauliffe.bsky.social
Well this is just jawdropping - have a listen, the smear campaign by FG on Catherine Connolly is really their only tactic. Also has anyone (other than a niece/nephew) ever called Heather Humphreys ‘Auntie Heather’? #speirgorm #aras25
bheanilla.bsky.social
Not really important, but it feels a bit weird for an Irish person to call her ”Frau Von Der Leyen“ *every* single time.

Some work still to do, shall we say.
Chart: Homophobic views have declined around the world with Iceland at the top and Nigeria at the bottom
bheanilla.bsky.social
But arguably the best way to do *that* is still probably to just give Ukraine even more drones to do it directly, even if they’re manufactured out of reach in Denmark or Poland.

“of course you can have the big peace prize mr president, just hand over the Lockheed-Martin Mega Death Laser 9000“
bheanilla.bsky.social
Yes the idea it would start WW3 has always been nonsense. But the situation isn’t the same.

We should think about what helps Ukraine most at the moment. I’ve become less sure shooting down a cheeky Russian jet over Estonia necessarily does.
bheanilla.bsky.social
Maybe, and they could just lie and say it happened already.

But I still think the chorus of celebratory / panicked western headlines in the event of a Russian just being shot down for real could help maintain support for the war in Russia as things gets harder to justify.
bheanilla.bsky.social
And without cheap long term solutions we could slip into a routine where Putin chews up expensive and limited European air defence systems with cheap dud drones.

Annoying but it *might* actually be the best strategy to not take the bait. While also ramping up aid to Ukraine as much as possible.
bheanilla.bsky.social
My hot take is Europe should get better at stopping sabotage and cyber attacks etc but should remain very reluctant to shoot down fighter jets and big drones unless absolutely necessary.

The Russian propaganda boon of “NATO kills Russian pilot!” vastly outweighs any benefit to Europe imo.

⚡️ NATO reportedly weighs stronger military response to Russian provocations.

According to four NATO officials, the goal is to raise the cost of Moscow's gray-zone operations and strengthen deterrence following a series of incursions by Russian drones and aircraft, the Financial Times reported.

The EU is Israel‘s largest trading partner, accounting for 1/3 of Israel’s imports.

Israel is only 0.8% of our trade.

Even more nonsense today with the stupid hiring hypothetical and the health minister‘s comments.

Getting especially annoying because her fans can brush off the legitimate criticisms among all these stupid gotchas.
bheanilla.bsky.social
As a Connolly disliker I kinda agree tbh. This legal career history and hiring an ex-con stuff is weak sauce imo and arguably even distracts from her substantive weakness of embarrassing foreign affairs hot takes.

Genuinely feel the attacks on substance early in the campaign, even if some of them were misleading, were much more relevant. The current character attacks feel somewhere between desperate and embarrassing for those making them

Given the problem is prevalent across all of society, through all age groups, I think it would make more sense to target how social media actually works for everyone - namely algorithmic feeds and who controls them - rather than targeted user bans like this

It’s not a plus but if I actually liked her foreign policy takes I don’t think it would be enough for me to drop support over HH

The reporting on silly blunders by other candidates is hilarious and proves they are unfit for office but the reporting on silly blunders by *my* candidate is mean spirited and proves media bias.
bheanilla.bsky.social
Might be more helpful if this was reported as some bullshit right leaning parties want to do rather than “the EU”
