“we need to listen to [cis] women’s concerns about trans people”

sure - and I think we need to protect trans people!!

(they never mean *my* concerns lol)
“It’s time we take the concerns of people of white working class origin who were born and raised in Stoke On Trent seriously!”

That’s me. See my bluesky feed for my concerns xxx

me two days before my period:
Google Gemini doesn’t appear to be doing too well:

‘"I am a disgrace to this planet. I am a disgrace to this universe. I am a disgrace to all universes . . . I am a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes and all that is not a universe," the bot continued.’
Google says it's working on a fix for Gemini's self-loathing 'I am a failure' comments
Google Gemini users said the bot is sharing self-loathing messages while attempting to solve tasks, including "I am a disgrace to this universe."

The stage of malnutrition in Gaza is so advanced that only specialist hospitals and weeks of intensive care can help someone make a recovery. Not a FULL recovery, either.

They know this not only looks good, but will kill countless starving people who die in vain from refeeding syndrome.

as someone who has been long-term sick and out of work, what helped me return was receiving effective treatment (which I ended up having to pay for out of pocket). luckily i had savings. not everyone does
As someone actually trained in behavioural psychology—unlike most MPs—I can tell you: financial precarity doesn’t “incentivise” sick people to work. It breaks them. Stress worsens health. Fear doesn’t create productivity. It creates collapse. #TakingThePIP
DWP boss just said Universal Credit gives disabled people 'perverse incentives' not to work

Liz Kendall's shocking comments came just as a new report slams the DWP for failing vulnerable claimants.

So which is it???

Remember sex based heights in Cass? you can tell a person's sex from their height, but not if they are five foot seven

couldn’t have put it better myself. palestine is the sole issue i’ve ever found where every person in my life, of all political persuasions, agrees on
The world isn't silent on Gaza - this is by far the most vocal I have seen the general public on a political issue in my lifetime. I have also never seen a bigger difference between the anger of the public and the inaction of specific institutions and governments. That's the crucial disconnect.

For young people it's instructive to go see how old folks complain of high power bills (~$100s) and the government takes aggressive action, whereas on housing (~$1000s) It's an endless parade of rarely meaningful policy.

when they inevitably lose who-knows-how-many seats, no doubt they’ll react with the fantastic strategy “we didn’t hate immigrants and trans people enough” 🙃
i joked yesterday how american history shows how a political party can just completely cease to exist after getting owned hard enough but it really does seem like the labour party is speed running making itself entirely redundant by making all their own members hate them

guarantee the same people who say “you shouldn’t have had children” will also be saying things like “childless people are selfish”, “why are fewer people having kids” etc etc
It is utterly fucking terrifying how quickly your life can go to hell. How you can go from comfortably affording your children to having nothing in the blink of an eye. Injury. Sickness. Redundancy. Eviction. Dismissing those who are struggling with "you shouldn't have had children" is monstrous

maybe a weird analogy but the whole ‘art vs the artist’ thing for me feels like enjoying a delicious meal but then you find a hair or something wrong in it and your disgust quickly becomes the main feeling

if you can still carry on gobbling it up with 0 qualms, you’re obviously not disgusted
there's also people claiming we trans people are "holding allies to a purity test" here and to be clear:

"Don't participate in stuff that actively funds the campaign to exterminate us" is a pretty fucking low bar. One might say it's not even "allyship," it's just decency.
Also, Lithgow is trying to muddy the waters by giving interviews where he pretends that the controversy here is that he's American, not that he's signing off on transphobia.

the subset of STEM people who denigrate the arts/humanities/social sciences are so annoying. how on earth do you have a superiority complex from e.g. doing calculus or writing code? big whoop, so can I, so can other STEM people… *whilst* simultaneously managing to not be totally insufferable!

I wholeheartedly agree that there is so much more that encompasses freedom and liberty - political rights are one part of a wider picture. I would also add that imo there can be a bit of an “I’m alright Jack” mentality amongst liberals too?
this is the perfect demonstration for when people insist that the line between liberals and "the left" is unclear. libs believe your political rights are all that matters when discussing freedom, as long as the petit-bourgeois can vote and post online and attend state approved protests they are free
free healthcare, massively higher rates of home ownership, a functioning infrastructure and train network. this is the problem with the entire liberal political project, it conceptualizes abstract "rights" that we don't even have as the most important things compared to material needs
