Generally try to stay anonymous, but I love history, philosophy, science fiction and fantasy, weird horror, playing and writing music, writing books, video games, and pinball. May have been a space rock on Twitter.

Fan of most nerddoms.
Understatement of the year:

"It is extraordinary for the Pentagon, which until the second Trump term has usually gone out of its way to act and appear apolitical, to directly threaten a sitting member of Congress."

New "I Voted" sticker just dropped.
I am vibe matching life. I am becoming frighteningly stupid on every conceivable level. You'll think, that's it, that's the dumbest shit I've seen...but you'll only be proven wrong...just give it a second.

Kentucky, I love you more than almost anywhere. I know how many good people make you up. But please, please don't do this anti-vaxxer bullshit. These are your kids. Your job is to keep them alive.
3 infant #pertussis deaths this year in Kentucky. "Of the three infant deaths reported over the past 12 months, all three were not vaccinated, nor were their mothers."

We first tested maternal vaccination for whooping cough over 80 years ago. It's safe & effective & might have saved these babies.

Quite literal fuck you to any document viewer that asks me if I want to do an AI Summary of the document I have open.

No. Nor should your question be taking up 1/10th of my screen. Stop trying to force AI into every nook and cranny and enshittifying a product that already fucking worked fine.

Dear Duffy: I usually dress alright for flights, but I just want you to know that I will be wearing pajama pants, slippers, and a shirt that says "Duffy peaked with Real World: Boston" sometime soon.
Sean Duffy: "Dressing with respect -- whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better which encourages us to maybe behave a little better. Let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport."

And thus begins one of the most worthless work weeks in American history, in which everyone pretends to not be in the process of leaving for or being on vacation, and yet everything is still an emergency which must be resolved immediately. Every year.

As a person on a blocklist or two for supposedly being too pro-AI, I just want to echo this post as 100% correct.

Unfortunately, it's the premise of so, so many sci-fi novels and shows for a reason. We always build first and ask questions later.

And yes, people are working on making it safer.
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Marco Rubio is gunning for the Presidency.
What a shit show. Everyone could see this plan was written by the Kremlin. Adopted by Witkoff and Trump who demanded Ukraine accept it by this Thursday. After a firestorm of objections by Europe and Republican senators it appears Rubio wants to distance himself from it.

FOR REAL

like y'all we are in dark times and they're gonna get worse before they get better, it is okay to enjoy something when you get the opportunity
I don't think you need to think there will be long term shifts in Trump's policies or behavior (there won't be) to enjoy what just happened, sometimes it's good to enjoy things that are funny in the moment

What if Mamdani was Bubba all along? 👀
Trump on Mamdani: "I think he's gonna surprise some conservative people, actually. And some very liberal people he won't surprise because they already like him."

Elon Musk's response that the ridiculous adulation Grok directed at him this week was due to adversarial prompting is so transparently a lie that Grok should not be considered for any government or enterprise projects.

This is not how any of this technology works.

Zohran Mamdani doesn’t make me, an American Jew, feel unsafe.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

This is why the way our military works, despite its faults, deserves respect overall. It's what separates us from places where if you don't follow the leader's command you get deported or killed.

When you take this thing away, the military stops being a protector and starts being an oppressor.
If you receive an illegal order, you have a duty to disobey.

This isn’t controversial.

A President calling for the execution of anyone who reminds service members of this oath is showing us why the duty to disobey illegal orders is so important in the first place.

Hi everyone. Service members should disobey illegal orders. This has been your daily dose of (checks 2025 notes) things Republicans call treason.

Yes, let's talk about this. Let's talk about everyone who was doing bad shit with Epstein, whatever their political party.
When Lauren refers to Jeffrey Epstein's "entanglements in the Democrat [sic] party," I assume she is talking about that time in 2003 when a Democrat gave Epstein a highly incriminating birthday card. The giver was Donald J. Trump, a Democrat at the time.

NEW: The prosecution of James Comey is hanging by a thread, besieged on all sides by challenges to the legitimacy of the prosecutor, the grand jury process and the motives for bringing the case in the first place.
