Maduro was a dictator.

But let's not pretend Trump cares about democracy.

He cozies up to dictators all over the world when it suits him.

Trump has been clear: he wants Venezuela’s oil.

That’s not democracy. That’s imperialism.

Updated: A DHS spokesperson claims a Portland victim shot by a border patrol agent today "weaponized" their vehicle, leading the agent to fire. The Trump administration made a similar claim following the killing of a woman in Minneapolis yesterday, though video apparently contradicts that assertion.

I have a 13-year-old whose YouTube habits are monitored somewhat, but I’m always worried about him going down some rabbit hole.

As a parent seeking resources, is there some way to easily identify which creators are trustworthy and which aren’t?

It’s not new behavior from these people but it remains stunning just how villainous they are willing to be. It feels like, if this were a movie, I’d think they’re laying it on a bit thick.

The Leftovers and Six Feet Under come to mind
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

gashed my knee open very badly because I slipped on some rocks running inside to not miss Degrassi.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

The destruction doesn't make for a photo-op like tearing down the East Wing of the White House or bulldozing the Rose Garden, but it's every bit as bad. Generations of American children learned to spell and count, learned the Preamble to the Constitution, from watching shows produced by the CPB.

My Arc Raiders lobbies are now so friendly that people have basically stopped vocalizing that they're friendly. It's just presumed now to the point that most don't question it anymore. I've never seen a video game take it this far. It's amazing. www.gamespot.com/articles/arc...

Do you have a horror game coming out in 2026?

I have three weeks before paternity leave and I’m planning to publish @gamespot.com’s horror 2026 calendar before I go, so let’s talk soon.

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

A new Watergate every morning with this guy
This should rank as one of the most serious corruption scandals in history- the White House sharing top secret military information with oil company executives but not with Congress, creating massive opportunities for insider trading and other corrupt deals.

Big Oil spent millions and millions to get Trump elected. They’re getting a great return on their investment.
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

My Stranger Things finale hot take is this theory-crafting around “finale is bad so it must be fake” is a concerning sign that our media literacy and ability to accept reality are both at all-time lows.

Most damning thing I can say about Stranger Things is I am obsessed with gateway horror. I’m always looking for cool horror-flavored stuff to experience with my kids. I could not recommend they watch this show. Bummer. boxd.it/cp373X

Been rewatching The X-Files with my wife and daughter. We’re into season 3 now. Some observations:

- The budget seems to take a big jump.
- Strongest season yet with many great episodes, including one of my favorites in the series, “Oubliette.”
- Mulder’s rizz achieves never-before-seen heights.
