I have absolutely had enough of social media. I know it's a mirror into the world and I can see where we are heading. Violence is being ramped up around the world with rhetoric and social media is one of the biggest contributors to this. The 'us first' mentality will only lead to global conflict.

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

I can get behind this
Black Friday 28th November - Closed
As is the tradition in Picton Cycles we will be closed, I'm going out to ride my bike instead.

This applies to huge swaths of Scotland where bus services can be anything from one a day to one a week.

Pay per mile is not a fair tax on rural communities where no alternatives exist. Which is most of rural Scotland
Pay per-mile tax is a regressive tax on rural communities that have had their public transport stripped away. No access to jobs, education, health via bus / train, so have to commute via car. Its a tax on communities that the government has failed to provide basic services to.

Today's UK budget could have delivered for people and planet by taking on the rich and powerful.

But that's not what it did. 👇

EV pay per miles based on best guess, then validation via MOT.

The car clocking businesses are rubbing their hands together.

Absolutely nobody will be able to trust any car mileage from now on. The only way to do this fairly is blackbox tech, but they aren't considering that.
Bonus for criminals

Good morning & welcome to Whiskers Wednesday

Kindness is free.
Go on and sprinkle that stuff everywhere.
A smile, a gentle word, a tiny moment of patience , it all adds up to something bigger than we realise.

Be kind

Last night the Government steamrollered its Planning Bill through, slamming the door on vital protections for nature.

They said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the economy and nature.

But in reality, they’ve pushed nature into last place.

Grey White Egret coming into Vane Farm RSPB Reserve / Loch Leven, Kinross, Fife

Quite please with this shot, although it was a long way out and even at 600mm I had to do some serious cropping.

First trip out with my new Sigma 150-600mm lens, could have done with a slightly faster shutter speed to get more ducks in sharp focus but quite pleased with the motion effect at the same time

Duty on petrol and diesel exists and might (should) rise in the budget

EVs are (probably) facing a pay per mile duty

And yet flights PAY NO DUTY at all

I do hate that every tandem i look at assumes the man is on the front and the woman is on the back (or child)

Visually impaired friend is WAY taller than me and needs to go on the back obviously

Had an idea - since we now have the technology, how about speed cameras now send tickets out for not having tax, MOTs or insurance? With a 14 day right to appeal to allow for computer system lags on new purchases/change of owner records.

Let's make it impossible to drive an uninsured, untested car
November 24, 2025 at 7:00 AM
Completely MISLEADING again. This applies in ENGLAND ONLY.

In Scotland, rail is already in government ownership and there are no Peak fares, not just freezing but actually cutting the cost of travel.

In Scotland it is now often as cheap if not cheaper to take the train than the car.
Train fares frozen: not happened for decades.

Bringing rail back into public ownership means we can take action on fares.

Still available. If you don't want Forest Green I also have one in Traildust White although it has a few more miles (less than 50) on it. Same price. It's in my profile pic. We don't need the two so either one can go.

Whichever one goes it will come with original saddle and standard bag.
