I pick up my flute every day and at some point I know I’ll play this beautiful piece of music by Gluck. One day I’ll do it justice, but I’ll always listen to Jean Pierre Rampal, and to my friend who studied under Rampal in Paris. Music is how I keep sane in a mad world.

"Brexiteers boasted that leaving the EU would be worth hundreds of billions a year. Cambridge Econometrics estimates that over the next decade Britain's economy will be £300bn smaller than if we had not left the EU. This is self-harm on a heroic scale."

We all know Brexit’s to blame for the crisis facing UK steel – it’s time for politicians to be honest and reverse it | Simon Jenkins
With British industry faltering, the excuse that the public wants this is risible. Parliament must force Starmer to act, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins

I keep a diary.
It’s called The Long War. Letters to the Living.

Today I wrote:

The muscovites launched 465 drones and 32 missiles.
Many were shot down –
405 drones and 15 missiles.
The rest landed on our lives.

Funny how Russian bribery gets mentioned by @zackpolanski.bsky.social on #BBCQT & Zia Yusuf gets very upset!

Good, about time someone stood up to Reform.

Fair play Zack as the panel seemed rattled by you.

Polanski expertly dismantling the "rich people will move if we tax them" narrative, while Denham nimbly demonstrates how very patriotic such people are.

Former Head of Comms for the IEA, Annabel Denham, says the super rich will leave if we have a wealth tax.

Yes, the very same IEA that brought us Liz Truss’ disastrous mini budget. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Green Party leader Zack Polanski explains that their taxable assets can’t leave. #bbcqt

“99 percent of journalists agree that it would be much more fun if we had an election tomorrow… and Farage had a go at being PM, just for the hell of it…” (Private Eye)
13sarahmurphy.bsky.social
Private Eye offers up an excellently scornful commentary on the relentless polling. It’s become ridiculous and has oversimplified our politics to dangerous levels of stupid and irresponsible.
SHOCK POLL:
NIGEL FARAGE WILL BE PM TOMORROW
IN an amazing poll conducted
by The Pointless Polling Company, it was revealed that voters' intentions
may well change over the next three and a half years and at present it's 100 percent impossible to guess what the next government might look like.
However, 99 percent of journalists
agree that it would be much more fun if we had an election tomorrow and everybody resigned and everything was chaos and Farage had a go at being PM, just for the hell of it, because it was so much fun when
Brexit happened and then the government kept falling every five minutes and we could write endless pieces about (cont. p94)

This #bbcqt audience is from the West Midlands & isn't taking any of the bullshit dogwhistling about Handsworth from Zia Yusuf (or Robert Jenrick).

They know it's designed to polarise & enrage, & - as @zackpolanski.bsky.social says - to distract from the real causes of poverty & inequality.

I'm genuinely interested in what might happen to the UK if fewer people were spending large proportions of their earnings on a place to live and were able to study and learn in way that wasn't limited by their income. A place to call home and something to be getting on with as a policy

I was at a British university. I met self-promoting gobshites like Annabel Denham and Zia Yusuf. They were a minuscule, unrepresentative fraction of some very privileged students, let alone the country. Why are they on TV talking about integration? They know nothing about it. They've never done it.

Shapiro: I filed that amicus brief last night to make it very clear that the Pennsylvania National Guard is under my command.

The way the President has chosen to deploy the Guard in other states—and, in at least one case, deploy the Guard from one state into another—is extremely dangerous.
