I'm old enough to remember Labour suspending its own MPs who voted to scrap the two-child benefit cap ...

Having checked out the OBR book that was uploaded to a mirror link in advance of the original being taken down, I have to say I'm surprised by how much of a focus the Chancellor is putting on Rick Astley

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

@microsoft.com you have introduced a setting in Word so when I leave a comment on my own document, on my own computer, it sends me an email from my own email address, telling me I've left a comment.
And your support team say its impossible to turn off and instead I'm supposed to block my own email?

Outstanding video, thanks for sharing Alfie!
Lots of articles and videos around at the moment, about how a lot of modern cinema is missing something. If you ingest one of these explainers, please let it be this one.

This gentleman truly knows what makes good cinema. And articulates it all perfectly imho.

For more than a decade now the government’s answer to how to fund universities has been to make money from overseas students.

The last lot then tried to discourage students from coming here.

This lot just want the money back.

But then how do we fund ourselves?

Crazy.

I get scared to start new games, especially ones where I will have to watch a ten minute movie about what the game is about. I sometimes start them up then quit them quickly, saying to myself, "not now. I can't do it just now."

Shittification and shareholder return

A rehash of an old thread

Why is everything crap. Well, here we learn why Adam Smith was an early Marxist, in that though he had great faith in markets

He had zero faith in merchants

And the reason why, is why no one answers your helpline

A thread on vision-touch synesthesia! 👇 I love learning about other types of synesthesia.

I have auditory-tactile synesthesia, meaning I feel sounds as physical sensations. It can range from being excruciating to euphoric.

Drop a question in the comments if you have any, I’m happy to answer!
So, this is wild:

In 2015, the podcast Invisibilia featured a woman with a very unusual condition.

Whenever Amanda (not her real name) sees someone else experiencing something - sneezing, getting stung by a wasp, eating chocolate - she physically echoes a version of what they’re feeling.

Wow, amazing thread - I've never heard of this type of synaesthesia!
Colours/words is apparently the most common - anyone else experience this? Until my teens I just assumed everyone saw Wednesday as pale grey/blue, or thought that 7 was bright green.
Slightly less common is music/colour
