I was listening to an old Casey Kasem American Top 40 (I find this soothing these days) from 1985 where he told the story of Wendy Carlos, who scored The Shining and Tron, and her journey to becoming trans. Casey got all the pronouns right and it was presented as a slice of life, feel good story

It's actually hilarious for Jayapal to endorse and work to elect Zohran in NYC while not working to elect Katie in Seattle.

Both the right and the left can fetishize academic faculty labor as special. We are not seen as workers or as members of "the community."

Many leftists think politics is bringing our expertise to/be in solidarity with "the community," as if we don't exist in the world and experience its issues too.

This is such an important thread, but this post really made me sad, because the broader scholarly infrastructure has (been) eroded to the point that knowledge exchange simply can't exist in the way it used to and there's little that journals can do about it.

Because that infrastructure was people.
