This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:
Good afternoon, Marisa.
Please see the below from DHS on the 13-year-old alien.
Please feel free to direct any questions to them.
Respectfully,
James

Here are the facts: he posed a public safety threat with an extensive rap sheet including violent assault with a dangerous weapon, battery, breaking and entering, destruction of property.
He was in possession of a firearm and 5-7 inch knife when arrested.

The hands down, absolute worst advice I’ve ever heard related to self publishing- “don’t give your books away for free, that makes readers think your book must be worthless.” If I have 1 piece of advice (and i do have *one* piece of advice) it’s to ignore anyone who tells you that.

Truly, I think the last thing anyone needs is someone's "most unhinged literary opinion" at this point. The only unhinged literary opinion I have is that too many ppl spend 99% of their time running to the internet to nit pick and argue over every little thing they read and 1% time actually reading.

She took the skulls from him with a nod. “Good. I just need to put them outside on either side of the door. She tried to push past him, but he blocked her way.
“Nah. No way are you walking outside until your feet are healed. I’ll stick ‘em out there.”

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

There's no "regular politics" anymore because you can no longer maintain the idea that we all agree on common goals but we only differ about the means of getting there or whatever. The guys in charge now are plainly amoral, sadistic nihilists. They delight in it! You can't civilly disagree with that

Simply trying to close my tab and the bartender has been talking to the same guy for going on 15 minutes. Have never felt more like a romance book antagonist.

Just read a book where they referred to “twins running in the family” of all men, when it’s mother’s genetics/egg activity that determines twins. I’m like, *way* too angry about this. As if I’m above making a comparable error

I think they genuinely don't think of things like that. It seems to me they genuinely don't think any distance into the future in any meaningful way. They just think "money now." They don't care what happens next year or even next month or next week.
brigidtfinn.bsky.social
Whenever I see people comporting themselves this way, I feel so grateful that I have a real job, that I've contributed to my community in meaningful ways over the years, that I have rewarding relationships with my partner, child, and friends. No matter how bad things are, at least I'm not Sally.

Ratio me. Please. It's a badge of honor. If you don't like a link, go follow some chicken-heart who needs the approval of the thought-police. Caitlin Flanagan of @theatlantic.com is a tremendous writer and this piece is an excellent read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

I’ve borrowed and returned Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler from the library multiple times without reading it throughout my life, but I’m finally listening to the audiobook, and it’s so remarkably good, I can’t even tell you.

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

“Don’t!” he cut her off. “Fucking cry again. Don’t. Cry. Again. I’ll go back for them tomorrow.”
She shook her head and wrung her hands in front of her body. “No, no I need them tonight. I can’t sleep without them.”
“You been sleeping without them all day—”
“But it’s different at night!”
He sighed. “Fine. I will go back and get them now. You better hope I’m back before dark. Better hope I get back safe.”
She shrugged. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll be fine here either way.”

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!
