The Brown Sign Life is about road trips short and long, about learning and loving what the world can teach us.

I had this idea during my yearly "big" road trip that loving what brown signs signal is really a lifestyle that we should embrace and celebrate. And if enough of us do that, we can all make a difference, in ourselves and in the world. www.brownsignlife.com

Wreaths Across America was today. It's a powerful ceremony - You say the veteran's name to remember them, before you lay the wreath. It's really a ritual with the idea being a person dies twice, once physically, and then again when their name is no longer spoken. #ParkChat

I said it last week!

And today, the Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit challenging the new design (Trump's face) on next year's America the Beautiful pass, as well as the new category for nonresidents.

We caught the 9-11 flag-lowering at Canyon Village in Yellowstone. It was very moving. Our amazing rangers helped us remember and honor the fallen.

What's something awe-inspiring or deeply emotional you've seen at a #PublicLand or #NationalPark? Most recently for me, it's the annual Memorial Illumination at Antietam National Battlefield, where 23000 lights illustrate the toll of 9/17/1862 against the night sky.

Looking forward to hosting another great #ParkChat this Wed. night, 12/3! I’ll have a topic by then, I promise.

This will be my first #ParkChat since being enshrined in the ParkChat Hall of Fame. I knew if I publicly begged for it long enough they’d let me in. That works for everyone, doesn’t it?
We are still working on our topic but this week #ParkChat welcomes Hall of Famer @btarrington.bsky.social as our special guest host. I’m certain that Todd will put together a terrific chat. Please join us. @naturetechfam.bsky.social @camarowrx.bsky.social @tthrash.bsky.social @mountainscalling.me

I've got this burning, yearning feeling deep inside me, and it hurts so bad.... I need to go wandering. This view of railroad tracks was discovered when following brown signs for "Covered Bridges" in the Catoctin Park and Cunningham Falls State Park area. #IBrakeForBrownSigns #BrownSignLife

One thing you can do to stop this is comment against the rollback of the Roadless Rule, public comments close Sept 19 (link in the bottom of the article). The Roadless Rule protects ~65 million acres of national forests & lands, including indigenous sites, from logging & other development.
Public comment on 'Roadless Rule' rollback closes Sept. 19
More than six million acres of Montana forests could be opened up to road development under a new proposal from the Trump administration. Public comment on the proposal is open until September 19.

A fav stop was the (recently burned) Nebraska National Forest. The origin story of this place is wild—basically, a local professor convinced Teddy Roosevelt to designate this treeless tract as a “forest reserve,” so he could then hand-plant one. Until recently it was the largest man-made forest.
