“Illinois governor says we’re provoking actions that are unlawful,” Miller said on CNN. “If I put federal law enforcement and National Guard into a nice sleepy Southern town, is anyone gonna riot?”

Creativity is the birthright of our species. From murals to music, from sculptures to sandwiches, from drawings to dances and everything in between. Making the world more beautiful, making each other's lives richer in so many ways is what we were born to do. All of us for each other, not just a few.

That all makes sense. Thank you for all of your advice and the recommendation for DuckDNS. I'm definitely going to be looking more into them as I am most likely going to head down the TrueNAS path. I can figure out the Matrix server at a later point.

Photo of a hand holding a linocut print of a black zippo lighter with the words "all we need is a spark" engraved on the casing, with orange to red flames and white sparks coming out of it Photo of a hand holding the same linocut print, one corner of which is set on fire. The real flame aligns with the flame on the print

NAS might be the more immediate need. Still getting a handle on how I want to shape the Matrix space. Since Matrix offers free accounts, I guess there's no real deadline for becoming my own provider for that service.
Thank you for the advice!

I am also setting up a Matrix/Element server as an escape from Discord if anyone has any tips on that

How to be an informed, pro-library, anti-book ban voter in upcoming fall elections (if you have them) and well into the future.

Don't just celebrate banned books. Don't just read banned books. VOTE to support the democratic institutions creating access to them.

Needing multiple streams of income to stay afloat is a societal failure not a personal one. You should be able to afford a comfortable lifestyle with one job. You are not lazy.

Looking to set up a Matrix server as an alternative to Discord for chatting with some friends. Down the line I would like the possibility of using the system as a NAS as well.

Does anyone have any experiences with Linux for a home server style setup? If so, would thou be willing to share any tips and tricks with the class?

there are breads that i enjoy making myself — any quickbread, sourdough boules and batards, flatbreads, biscuits etc. — but you’ll never catch me making a baguette or croissant at home. i live a short bike ride from three boulangeries!

a big thing i learned about myself during covid is that i just want to buy a goddamned baguette from the store or the bakery, i literally never want to make the damned thing myself

The PBS live stream chats are filled with people calling Speaker Johnson a liar.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

Chiitan has a dream.
I hope that one day the term LGBT will become a thing of the past.
I will continue to spread my message until we live in a world where everyone can love freely and is free from persecution and discrimination.
Until then, let's all support each other🤍

Watching the way the Trump administration is using criminalization as a weapon ought to make clear how criminalization works even in normal times.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

It's not just that they're going to strike down a law against conversion therapy, it's that they're going to do it on behalf of made-up claims from a straw plaintiff who can't honestly show the law affected her at all
