lol gentle reminder that DEI is not illegal. Supporting marginalized groups is not illegal. Anyone reneging on support is making a CHOICE to do so.

What drives me nuts about this dialogue: diversity and inclusion training was a corporate response to the statutory requirements civil rights laws. None of these laws have been repealed by Congress. Congress can pass the laws under Section 5 of the 14th Amendment, which has also not been repealed.

Yes! It’s something that I used to do when I was in my 20s, without knowing that was what I was doing.

Let's make a promise here, friends... we ARE going to abolish ICE. Not REFORM it. ABOLISH it. And we're going to put that massive budget back into funding all the things that actually HELP people.

I forgot the term, but in @alexanderchee.bsky.social ‘s past substack post, I recall that he described a process where you pick a random page in a random book for inspiration/direction.

Image is from the Gordon Parks book, a random page. It is strangely telling re: recent thoughts today.
IN ALL MEN
In all men
Love or hate
Is inevitable.
Young men,
With fewer
Loves conceived,
With fewer
Hates defined,
Make more
Imprudent choices.
Old men,
With little time
Left to waste
Seldom choose-
Knowing that both,
Love and hate,
Are filled with pain.

You may have already seen this, but it’s from an interview with the Portland Chicken talking abt the Portland Frog. Yes, humor can be a mighty sword.
Text:

Can you put into words what that purpose is?
You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There's been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we're actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit.
When they try to describe this situation as
"war-torn," it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it's, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

I just got off a call with a group of young people who were seeking some guidance for a project they have launched in their community. Folks, I can tell you that we are blessed in this generation. They are smart and importantly so damn compassionate. ALSO, they know more than we did at their age.

In the fall of the year 1914 two separate clubs were organized one for Senior girls and the other for Junior girls. In Sept., 1916, these two clubs consolidated. The name Terquarts was therefore derived from the combining of the third year and fourth year clubs. All Senior and Junior girls are eligible for membership, The total number of members in the Club is one hundred and ninety-six. The purpose of this Club is to develop sociability and friendliness among Senior and Junior girls throughout the school, and to learn more of present problems connected with the civic welfare of the school and community, A meeting of the Ter-gggrts is held the third hour of the third Friday of each school month in room The meetings are very interesting. First, business matters are taken care of. Then, a program usually consisting of a few musical numbers and recita- tions is given. The Club had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Stahl give two readings at one meeting and at another enjoyed a reading by Miss McCarthy, also of the Faculty. The Terquart Club is known well to all Freshmen girls because of the party…

I didn’t know Gordon Parks, the photographer, was also a poet. I recently found this book in a local used bookstore. Copyright 1971.
The cover of Gordon Parks’s book whispers of intimate things; image of some type of concrete column with a sculpture of the top half of the backside a woman. There is greenery around the column

Societies never know it, but the war of an artist with his society is a lover's war, and he does, at his best, what lovers do, which is to reveal the beloved to himself and, with that revelation, to make freedom real.

Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.
