canada spends almost $30 billion a year on its military

almost all of its hardware is purchased from u.s. companies

158 canadian service members died in the war in afghanistan
Trump: "Canada doesn't pay for military. They give us nothing. And they are the worst people to negotiate with of everybody ... they cheat."

Strength is not brute force.

It’s not posturing, bullying, or performative displays of power.

Strength comes from stability, predictability, and reliability.

Attempts to "restore American strength" through chaos, intimidation, and bullying make us weaker and weaker every day.

On the one hand, an odd statement coming the day after a series of US strikes against one side in Yemen’s civil war. On the other hand, an indication that the intervention in Yemen will remain dominated by kinetic actions rather than support to the Yemeni government or other Houthi adversaries.
Pete Hegseth: "I don't -- we don't care what happens in the Yemeni civil war."

Chuck Schumer is very clear that he and the Democratic Party are not going to come to the aid of higher education against Trump’s assault. He agrees with it. Quibbles on details but supports forcing universities to crack down harder against alleged antisemitism.

WELKER: Worst week for the market in two years -- does that worry you, Mr Secretary?

BESSENT: Not at all. I can tell you corrections are healthy. They're normal.

Let's not forget that in aggregate we are smarter, more likeable and less insane than these guys. The absolute intellectual best they can muster is Russell Vought. No slouch, a scary opponent to be sure, but also a detestable man and certainly no Nobel Prize in his future either.
Here’s a useful:hopeful way to think about things: the broader strategic rationale behind Musk/Trump/Vought is that they can inflict enough damage and move with enough velocity that when election time comes around it’s all a fiat accompli, regardless of the results. But let’s assume the wheel turns

There is evil in this country. Biblical evil, acts of cruelty performed by people who abandoned or smothered their souls years ago for whatever reason. It is funded by your tax dollars, sanctioned by some of your elected officials. When you see it, when it comes to your door - what will *you* do?

It took since 1887 to build up the greatest biomedical research apparatus in the world. It’ll take a few ignorant dickheads a few months to tear its heart out.
Per a source (and similar post on Reddit, fwiw), NIH RIF plan may centralize and cut the number of institutes and centers by around half.

“This is the end of NIH as we know it.”

You can’t say Trump is the biggest threat to democracy and then go along with his budget proposal.

Dems need to cut the bullshit and oppose this fucker with every ounce of energy they have. Show me you actually care, Dems.
