Oil being delivered next door. My 3 year old was in our garden. As the delivery man was dragging the oil hose through next doors garden, she roared over to offer him “a wee go of the baby’s dummy?” He replied dead seriously, “no you’re grand I’m only after one”

Both were delighted with themselves

Just to be clear, an English degree - learning to critically assess texts - is actually one of the most dangerous for people such as Badenoch.

An educated population, able to bring hundreds of years of context to statements in a dawning age of AI slop and attention-seeking dishonesty is also vital.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

His ‘24 documentary A Life in Our Times captures so much of where we are, no more wringing our hands while saying if only for colonialism, the church etc, we *should* be at a mature stage & have choices to make. IMO the budget yesterday shows a choice even if it is a passive one

The Chester Beatty library just beside Dublin Castle is well worth a visit. Visited there recently after a gap of a few years and it’s fab. Great restaurant there too - Silk Road. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester...

Stupid typos. The shame!!

I read the update yesterday on the ccpc site yesterday and think it was confusing for most consumers (and maybe journalists)-“urgent safety alert as 114,000 circulating pumps installed in heating systems” was abbreviated to heating pumps

I was genuinely confused earlier trying to figure out what these were

“The AI man” is also pretty confused why everyone is looking at him suspiciously

Just learned the Arte.tv website existed & I've already found a short on women Romani rappers, a documentary on post-communist but pre-reunification East Germany, dance performances, a Finnish opera, & an MC Solaar concert.

It was only through reading the likes of Julia Donaldson etc that I realised the fun for little kids through rhythm you could get with rhyming (testing out my own spelling abilities here)!!

I used to give a kind of reward of a funny poem or an enjoyable read at the end. We’d also focus on a particular word to get a bit of craic - see how to rhyme it with a ridiculous word. All in order to punctuate that reading with a little joy

Took the 4yo to the library and he found his favourite book that we already have at home, and insisted on borrowing it because that’s how much he loves it

The most quotable movie EVER was released #OTD in 1987.
The Princess Bride, directed by Rob Reiner, was based on the 1973 fantasy romance novel by William Goldman. #FilmSky #BookSky 🎬📚

Exactly - all potential candidates and parties had 7 years to prepare.I wonder too if there’s political currency loss eg last minute support given by a senator this am.Why risk backing a candidate unless sure they were going to make the ballot paper

I have the vaguest memory of having to speed up my walk when David Mc used to perform on Grafton St due to second hand embarrassment and afraid of eye contact. Being kind - he’s full of confidence

Funny you should mention soft power etc, I have borrowed a 2017 season of Just a minute for my son to listen from BorrowBox. At the outset of each show, Nicholas Parsons welcomes people listening around the world.
