Games I'm hoping to get to the table in 2026

As campaigns:
- Ars Magica Definitive
- GURPS (4E) Hârn
- Galaxies in Peril
- Destined

As (at least) a one shot:
- Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork
- Champions (4th edition)
- Pathfinder for Savage Worlds
- Against the Darkmaster

One major game not on this list: Ars Magica! Having run a campaign of it in 2024, I didn't get it to the table this year. With Definitive Edition getting closer, here's hoping that changes in 2026!
Reflecting on the games I have played or run this year. Ratings are based on my thoughts on the system, not overall game quality due to GM, players, etc.:

(1) Numenera
Played/Run: Played (campaign)
System: Cypher (d20)
Rating: 6/10

Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Surprisingly excellent thread (with an unexpected shoutout to my local West Midlands saint, John Henry Newman).
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

This reminds me of Cardinal John Henry Newman's book Definition of a Gentleman. I often cite Newman's book because it's so instructive. The term gentleman is so overwrought and frequently abused, but to the degree it means anything at all, I think Newman captures it here:

i feel that this is not really ultimately about men, its really about a world where the “non-toxic” cultural milieu relentlessly emphasizes an autonomous, secure self that simply doesn’t exist

perhaps the only good news about our era is that it does seem to present a different path for heroism rooted in kindness, acknowledgement of others’ dignity, and protection of the vulnerable, you don’t need to be a “put together” person to make the country better

I think it’s important not to expect yourself or other people to be especially coherent or consistent in either behavior or opinions, but you should expect both to be a little aware of, embarrassed by, & self-deprecating about it.

"The key to ending overt racism against Asians in Britain is that we must Stop the Boats" = a very bad argument indeed, on so many levels

Like many Catholics I own (and have lost) a silly number of rosaries. But my favourite is the already-slightly-broken rosary that belonged to my grandpa, which my mum gave to me after he died. There's a very literal bit of tradition that you can't sell. 1/2
