With all the new people joining: if you have any suggestions for who to follow at the intersection of sustainability and tech — please share!
I’ll also add new accounts to my starter kit on the topic.
Obviously, this is not an individual responsibility. But a whole-of-society one. More inspo in Maria‘s talk linked above.

There are things we can do to push back:
➡️ Start with using the Fediverse or ATmosphere instead X, Meta and Co.
➡️ Appreciate the importance of independent journalism, and start supporting it financially.
➡️ Hold tech companies to account, using all the democratic and regulatory tools available to us.

A fusion that no longer targets our attention only, but is moving towards an intimacy economy where it is getting harder and harder to form opinions without interference. #IntimacyEconomy #BigTech

The space where we form our opinions is being manipulated. Ressa calls this the operating system of our democracies. She points to the fusion of the tech oligarchy with political power, a dangerous merger with the tools to manufacture consent or drown out dissent. #DigitalPublics

"We can't solve problems, we can't agree exist."

What @mariaressa.bsky.social points out in this powerful speech is critical: We can discuss all the crises in the world but we won't be able to solve any of them if our information ecosystem is corrupted.

Full solidarity with @hateaid.org ! Standing up for our rights online is the way to go, and these accusations couldn't be more Orwellian... all the more reason to keep going this way and push for the DSA and transparency from online platforms!

📍The entanglement of tech billionaires with political power severely threatens climate action. The AI hype isn’t about specific models solving concrete problems. It’s about cashing in. At the expense of everyone else.

📍Fascism is not an opinion. Journalists must be careful to not fuel autocratic agendas by creating false “two-side-ism” narratives.

My panel was refreshingly clear in its support for enforcing EU regulations vis-a-vis the volatile environment the current “deregulation” agenda is creating.
We also talked about the growing influence of right-extreme voices on social media.

I emphasised three points:
