And smaller cars, better public transit, and more bike infrastructure.
If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage.

The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.”

It’s about control.

Heard this one? The City of Barcelona traded 3 lanes of vehicle traffic for an exceptional 4.7km green pedestrian corridor in the heart of the Eixample grid. Businesses sued, & eventually won in court. Then they admitted that they actually like the change.

Streets for people are good for business.

I love that a desire path is indicated as a primary route.

Not sure it's in the scope of the study but we desperately need a link between Strachan and Shaw at Queen as well.

Safest route is through the park but that's pretty iffy during peak hours.

Going car-free is the best thing most people can do for climate. To reduce car dependency, cities should promote car-free living, supporting compact cities through policy, and investing in public transportation, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and shared mobility options.

The average traffic speed in downtown Toronto is ~22km/h, with rush hour slowing to ~17-20km/h. This is the same as typical bicycle speed. Bicycles aren't causing traffic congestion, drivers are. #BikeTO #TOpoli

You'll never believe how much time Toronto drivers lose to rush hour traffic in a year
A new annual traffic index estimates that Torontonians lose 100 hours, or four days and four hours, per year to rush hour traffic.

Toronto Council meets today! It's budget time. This year, the mayor has backed a low residential property tax increase (just 2.2%!) so it's not clear what council will argue about, but I'm sure they'll find something.

The meeting stream is here. I'll post happenings. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HA3...

Parking is just subsidized car storage, and doesn't cost what the true land value is worth.
Something to keep in mind the next time the city tries to repurpose parking and drivers complain that every last car is necessary at all times. The storm was two weeks ago.

The more people that choose to walk, bike and ride public transit to get around cities, the better cities work for everyone, including drivers.

EVERYONE.

There’s no “war on cars,” just an opportunity for more successful cities.

A piece from me in the Toroto Star today, I'll flesh out my concerns more in a post later, but the Eglinton Crosstown is good, which is a problem, because while the stations are palatial, the streetcar style trains are not high capacity.

Regular reminder that a line four western extension makes a ton of sense despite all the silliness
Toronto's expanding rail network looks nice on map but the disconnect between Lines 4 and 6 is a real problem, and it will get works if 6t ever starts running faster than the bus it replaced.

I warned them about this years ago.

Grid cities need grid transit networks.
As of tomorrow (Sunday, February 8th), this is what Toronto’s TTC network will look like. Can’t wait to ride Line 5 Eglinton (Crosstown LRT)
