It's almost like a global scientific phenomenon like climate change is more complex than "hot get hotter." But arrogant, small-minded people are eager to point to simple gotchas instead of engaging earnestly with the spirit of learning and curiosity.
Can't believe I have to say this but climate change is responsible for extreme cold snaps.

I got in contact with a friend of mine in MN last night, and I asked how I could help. She gave me some amazing resources, so I thought I'd share them with all of you good-hearted folks. We do more when we do it together.

If we can't drive refugees, we can make phone calls. If we can't make phone calls, we can pay gas funds and legal fees. If we can't protest, we can supply protesters. We can't do everything, but we can all do SOMETHING. Find a need, meet the need. It's the least we can do.
Yesterday, I drove refugees that had been shipped off to Texas all the way back home to St. Paul

Seeing them reunite with their families reminded me this is their home.

So keep sending them to Texas. I’ll keep driving ‘em back and introducing them to Bucc-ee’s and KC barbecue along the way.

America was built to be a Capitalist trap, an Oligarchy in a trenchcoat, controlled by White people and built on the backs of slavery and oppression. The water heated up. Black people died first, and nobody got out because they didn't matter enough.

We can do better.
Acknowledging that the American project is fatally flawed isn’t doomerism. You can find it in yourself to know that we can build better as it meets its inevitable collapse. You can believe we have an existence & identity that’s not bound to a state. A state & the people are not the same thing.

We got to talk about the fact that the first target for this is a Black woman which a lot of people in the terminally online world we know these comms staffers (and others) inhabit represent a particular archetype of person who needs to be “humbled.”

I've discovered a problem with my Swear Jar (donation jar against hateful comments). I absolutely cannot look at comment sections on social media, or I will end up donating $5000 by the end of every month by the amount of stupid, hateful shit people say.

My budget can't stand up to the bigotry.

If anyone needs anything, I'll be playing cozy video games and dissociating until further notice.

Either Fields of Mistria or Resident Evil 2. Possibly both.

What are you all doing this weekend?

Today's a great day to call your dem senators and ask what they've been doing to muck up the system.

Ask about opposing Unanimous Consent. Ask how many Quorum Calls they've made. Reading bills out loud. The minority has power in the Senate. They're not using it and then telling us they can't.

Angry at Shitty People on the Internet? Start a Swear Jar.

Every time you see a shitty comment about immigrants, trans people, fascism, etc, put some money in the swear jar (this can be in the Notes app on your phone). Then, at the end of the month, donate that money to the people most at risk.

Dehumanization of people "not like us" is the first play in the Fascist Playbook. We must use our privilege, even though we're scared. We must use the juice to do more, not less.
pulling this reflection on white silence/fear over here, too:

Somebody give me a resource. I have to do something good for someone to wipe this ugly stain off my heart from that conversation.

Jami, Jami, Jami. You KNOW better than to get into arguments with bearded Republican men on the internet.

This man has a daughter, and I'm so damn scared for her.

He said Renee Good "deserved it" because "she made stupid decisions." Like her execution is justified because she acted out of fear.

I think this is such an important distinction & reminder

like I don't owe any allegiance to the systems and structures and the machinery of power, but there are fucking beautiful extraordinary amazing people in every corner of this country and to whatever degree I'm "patriotic" it's loyalty to them

Tonight, to celebrate nothing at all, my wife and I made peanut butter chocolate cookies. The recipe called for less flour and an extra egg yolk, to make the texture gooey, and it really worked. My portions continue to be suspect; I overcorrected and made 19 instead of 15. I'm still having fun.

I don't hold out hope for the World Cup moving locations (what with the FIFA Peace Prize and all) but I deeply, deeply hope that the US is barred from participating in the Olympics like they did for Russia. While I would feel terrible for all the competitors, we do indeed fucking deserve it.

The best thing we can do for Renee Good is to work together in her honor. We can't bring her back, but by gods we'll make sure she didn't die for nothing.
A gentle reminder in your grief that Renee Good was out there to protect her Black and brown neighbors from ethnic cleansing. That is still the mission.

The focus should remain on slowing down the ethnic cleansing campaign and on protecting Black and brown families and communities from destruction.

The only good thing about how stupid and evil this regime is that, with as much as they colossally fail, I'm getting really good at spelling "schadenfreude".

Cynicism leads to apathy and capitulation. Hope is dangerous; it leads to action. I know anything we do feels like a drop in the bucket. But tsunamis are also made of drops of water.

These are not the actions of a confident regime, but a desperate one. Keep chipping away; we can win.
When you succumb to the cynicism, you are helping Trump. He wants you to think that all is lost, that he is all powerful, and that there is nothing we can do.

The fight for democracy is hard, but it is worth having. We have shown we can stand tall. We have shown we can win.
Many of you have become drama-addicted doomers, and you seem to think it's important for the rest of us to join you.

Yes, things are bad. But change is within our power. Grow up. Act like sober, responsible adults in a democracy instead of cynical, all-is-lost teenagers.

Now get off my lawn.
