Well they were obviousy very interested in cricket score cards once upon a time! This is where I think the fairness of a single source of abbreviations has to be balanced with the unfairness, misbalance of references etc which that bakes in

Maybe not hyper, but Guinevere had the good example of Association earlier. If you say uber-common component abbreviations *should* be in the dictionary, then one might say there's no harm in using clear omissions like that (though personally I think it'd be neater to stick to standalones)

On "fun" I think there's a comparison to be drawn between Chambers and VAR in football which is supposed to ensure fairness, but regularly leads to results that instinctively feel wrong because either a corker of a goal is disallowed or a boring technicality is allowed

Maybe what I mean is that it makes it a game played with the dictionary itself rather than a game played with the language where the dictionary is an honest referee. The ref's taking bungs to put B=British in there!

Not necessarily suggesting we all stop using B=British, just observing there's an arbitrariness to it which I find aesthetically(?) weak even if it's ethically(??) fair. Seems a bit like using "fridge" as an anagrind because, say, Chambers accidentally listed it as a synonym of drunk
