wilderness survival
be prepared to freeze scout
master says or you might not survive

beyond us mist crawls along the skin
of a pond he says to breathe it in

big breaths like a man and taste
the fresh cuts it leaves along the inside

of your throat let your body quiver
as your blood bleaches the fine air red

i stand frozen beside the master my throat
yoked tight within his grasp a firm man’s hand

i feel his fingers crawl inside my mouth
and slouch down through the blood

he fingers the folds and they peel back
leading him deeper and deeper down

i do not know who dragged us under
the water i cannot tell my flesh from his own

i try to scream but men only
jump to save little girls from drowning

looking up at the pond i wonder if water
freezes beneath the surface or just on top

Natalie Portman with a shaved head in the film V for Vendetta, which is a movie not real life, gazes at the masked anarchist revolutionary V, who again, is not real life but based on a comic book character.

Haven't seen this shared a lot - but yes, 26 out of 30 of the scholars on the NEH Council just got axed - and surprise, what do you know about the 4 left? ⬇️
janaykingsberry.bsky.social
The National Council for the NEH had 26 scholars and leaders serving humanities efforts across the U.S. After today’s White House firings, it’s down to just 4 Trump-appointed White men, one terminated member told me.

From me, @travismandrews.bsky.social and @kelseyables.bsky.social:

White House fires much of the National Council on the Humanities
The White House appeared to fire all but four members of the National Council on the Humanities, an advisory board to the head of the government’s grantmaking agency.

Girlhood Games: Gender, Identity and Coming of Age in Videogames is a 6-year-long labour of love for young adult stories, teen heroines in videogames and unnoticed girly game histories.

How does he intend to enforce this?

Tax the productions themselves, which aren't imports?

Tax the reels or hard drives that get shipped back to the US, which are a tiny portion of the budget?

Tax the exhibition of foreign films, which also aren't imports?

Ridiculous nonsense.

I'm reminded of the old story that Lord British (designer of Ultima) hated EA so much that he had a tombstone put in his yard with the current CEOs name on it.

Okay, y'all, I want to do something nice. If you have a new book about to be published, or that was just published, reply! Let's make a thread of orders and pre-orders. I'll start with mine: mcfarlandbooks.com/product/news...
Book cover for "Newsies, Newsies - Read All About It! Essays on the film and Broadway productions." Edited by Emily Hamilton-Honey; forward by Vincent DiGirolamo. The cover shows a black and white photo of a denacing newsboy. The text is black on a yellow background, and loose pages of newsprint frame the edges.
