The evil organization here was going to be SPECTRE, but they didn't have the rights, so it became the new organization Quantum, which was later retconned to being part of SPECTRE when they finally got the rights back. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

It is unusual to have Bond not actually do the bad guy in, though there are precedents (For Your Eyes Only comes to mind), but it felt a little weird that he does nothing at the end here. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

The movie intentionally downplayed the use of gadgets in the lead up, but then did this whole sequence. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

The CIA having unlimited funds raises more questions than it answers, though if you know your history, it makes sense. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

The setup for CASINO ROYALE is (loosely) based on Ian Fleming’s experiences as an intelligence officer during WWII, when he saw Nazi spies at a casino in neutral Portugal and mused about bankrupting them at cards. (Unlike Bond, he wasn’t that good a player.)

I never thought Vesper was all that weird of a name, owing to having read Lloyd Alexander's Vesper Holly stories in middle school. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

The Prime Minister that M refers to is still Tony Blair by this point, who would step down in 2007 after ten years in the role (a lifetime by today's standards). #CasinoRoyale #HATM

This crane chase sequence is the height of the film for me - fantastic stunt work, a willingness to let Bond falter (but get up again), a Kool Aid Man moment, and some Jackie Chan-level use of construction set pieces that feel lived in. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

Martin Campbell also directed Goldeneye, the previous "reboot" 11 years earlier (reboot, in that case, being figuring out how Bond works after the Cold War). #CasinoRoyale #HATM
Martin Campbell also directed Mask of Zorro. Which we watched, hence I mention it. That’s how this works. #HATM #CasinoRoyale

1. Roger Moore. #CasinoRoyale #HATM
That brings us to tonight's #HATM questions:
1) Who is your favorite Bond?
2) What is your secret agent cocktail of choice?
3) And what is on the menu at your home tonight?

The show kicks off in just a few moments. See you soon!

Casino Royale was a decent success stateside over Thanksgiving 2006, opening in a narrow second against George Miller's Happy Feet. It was a huge hit worldwide, however, totaling $616 million against a $150 million budget. #CasinoRoyale #HATM

Just found out about this CFP from Intellect, and it's due in a week.

But, can be a great opportunity for a proposal on how manga and manga fandom developed - in your country!

Flashlights (not candles). Smoke/carbon monoxide alarms. Knowing where the vents to your home are so you can clear them of snow. Do it all. We're being given so much time with this storm.

Also! A trick my dad (an Oklahoman) taught me is that if you have any sinks/tubs etc in unheated rooms--not uncommon in the south--leave the faucet running just a tiny bit to keep those pipes from freezing as well. Safer than a space heater+ still works if the power goes out.

Also! To avoid burst pipes, make sure all outdoor garden hoses/sprinklers etc are disconnected from your outdoor faucets, and then wrap the faucets in anything insulating--Home Depot sells drawstring faucet insulator bags, but bubble wrap will work. You have to do it now before the temp drops.

This pathetic, masturbatory “everyone is too mean to wittle ol’ me” behavior by prominent AI executives is NOT doing a damn thing to help advance genuinely useful applications of AI tech.

It’s just making more and more people *entirely understandably* hate AI in all manifestations and forms.
