"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." –Justice Louis Brandeis

Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.

We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.

Not a single strategic goal has been met. Russia's losing a Vietnam's worth of soldiers every few months. The economy is sprinting toward stagnation, while Moscow is turning more and more every month into a Chinese vassal—all while the Kremlin's allies topple elsewhere.

Staggering historic failure.

Call it performative if it helps you sleep better, but you all seem to be pissed when elected officials don't do the performative things you claim you want.

Biden paused the sales, Trump resumed the sales. And you say they are the same.

Reading the Epstein files, like, I'm sorry to say but you do have to hand it to the guy. He really had the number on this fucked up social circle. To their credit, some people saw straight through it—Melinda Gates and Tina Brown most clearly—but Epstein had his marks dead to rights.

Also, my survey where we asked 1,000 players what game they played the most. Not what they liked best. Literally: "What game on this platform do you have the most minutes in?"

Of the thousand players asked, exactly ZERO got the answer right. Zero. Not a single one. That should tell you something.

Un-fucking-real that we live in a society where many, many people in power openly support this idea. And you really saw it start with Bad Blood—a lot of VCs thought Holmes got railroaded.
Yeah man, all you had to do was not perpetrate a massive fraud and this would’ve worked out great for you.

it's not really possible anymore to "get out democracy back" or whatever, absent painful and foundational reforms. we can't govern a nation or participate in the world when every 4 years every institution and every practice can be completely upended. swinging crazily from pole to pole is not viable

Quite simply I want to vote for someone who gets spiritual nourishment from being hated by billionaire sociopaths instead of yearning for their approval
i don't understand that any democrat is currently talking beyond "elect democrats next time!" and honestly i think this is going to take a total constitutional overhaul. executive power, the supreme court, the electoral college, hell even the senate. this all has to be locked down to stop this

Lots to say about this interview (from Doomscroll with Josh Citarella, which you should follow), but for BlueSky I’ll highlight two things:

1. Whatever your peeve with Graeber or Chomsky, recognize that the recent social media move against them is an op.

And 2…

I think Farm to Taber has analyzed this, and her argument is that the large farms feel like they can swap in prison labor and H2A.

The video is very, very depressing.

To have that level of immiseration be greeted, as has often been the case, with people treating this like a bunch of tech bros finally got their comeuppance, is disgusting. And infuriating. Hating the 5 predator billionaires who run these companies does not justify dehumanizing these workers.

Here's how you use a committee hearing.
Goldman: "Will the survivors and victims who are here please stand up one more time. By show of hands, how many of you or your loved ones actually have met with the DOJ? None ... How many of you were ignored by the DOJ? All of them." (Bondi responds by smearing Goldman.)

I hate to say it but AI code reviews make it a lot easier to understand big PRs. Pros and cons to that, obviously, as you still shouldn't write them, but if you have to deal with them it's nice to have the bot do basic review.

Signal boost the hell out of this—her analysis of how IRL farming and ranching really intersect with left/right politics on issues like "right to repair" or "antimonopoly" is spot on and highlights a real risk/vulnerability to a naive version of that politics.

Remember when "America has many groups of people in it and that's good and makes us strong" was an uncontroversial - even cliched - viewpoint that was universally endorsed across the political spectrum?

We can go back! We just have to get rid of the tiny handful of bitter, angry men in the way.
