The Department of Agriculture fired employees working on the avian flu outbreak because of DOGE. DOGE works directly for President Trump.

So from now on, when this kind of thing happens, it should be reported as, "Trump fires employees working on avian flu."
NEW: Trump’s USDA admits it "accidentally" fired "several" agency employees working on the federal response to the H5N1 avian flu outbreak—and is now scrambling to undo the damage.

Yeah, this is pretty obvious but worth stressing.

Also, the idea that techbro coders with no experience in government are best able to identify and root out “fraud” is laughable
If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.

If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.
i mean, the president's executive order isn't a goddamn law! as far as this doctor is concerned, who cares what the president says!
A New York City doctor said he will continue providing gender-affirming treatments to his patients younger than 19 despite President Donald Trump’s executive order aiming to ban such care.

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law."

Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so.

in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?
Hearing that DOGE went into the Dept of Education today and shut down almost the entirety of the department's in-house research arm, Institute of Educational Sciences, cancelling contracts totally about $900m.

What do they think happens to civil rights lawyers & activists? It just amazes me.
Gillibrand on WNYC today said one reason they're all falling in line is that they get death threats.
cassidy changing his tune after what he said on the senate floor is what has upgraded my position from "they are being bribed" or "they are worried about primary challenges" to "they are worried about being murdered"
