Oddly enough, in media coverage of Dems' video warning against carrying out illegal orders, there's very little discussion of *whether it's actually reasonable to fear Trump is giving illegal commands or not.*

The evidence is strong that he is. Media should say so:

Since January 2023, the New York Times has cited Rep. Ralph Norman, R-SC, in 78 stories. None mentioned that Norman secretly urged the Trump White House in 2021 to declare martial law – in effect, a military-backed coup. Norman wasn’t charged, but the NYT gave him a “pardon” anyway.

Fifty-eight trans people’s lives were needlessly cut short in the last 12 months … and the nyt says criticism of its hate campaign was too much for it to endure.

As usual, the New York Times headline dialed down Trump’s rhetoric to make it seem slightly less insane than it really was. Trump didn’t just accuse Dems of sedition — he called for their execution.

Much as the Chronicle covered last year in re San Jose St. volleyball, there's nothing organic about this. The activities of activists like Riley Gaines, Harmeet Dhillon & Bill Bock should surprise no one, thought worth noting again how badly the NYT's coverage on this topic has misinformed readers.
This incredible profile of Gaines’ rise is a fantastic read, but more importantly it highlights how when Gaines started getting media attention days after her 200m final there was an entire ecosystem devoted to media training her and supporting her there to assist in her growth. It’s not organic.
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

I am not a big deal online. I am most important in life in the space I inhabit, where the people I care most about live: The physical world, meatspace, where joy is felt, but also anguish and the rest, the world that is not where bots tell how to feel or what.

New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.
