Birdsong is something that can be a vital part of your well-being for years without you noticing or appreciating it, like having intact internal organs.

And of course it didn't go down in the charts after the appearance
(It went up to 14 and stayed there for another week)

Spring, summer and autumn are the party seasons for trees but winter is when you really get to know them as people.

Liverpool folk, can anyone identify the street from about 0:35 to 0:50 seconds in. It looks to me like the L8 area (then Toxteth, now Georgian quarter) which makes sense as the film then moves to the Anglican Cathedral which is at the end of Hope St

You have to love Bill Nelson's singular devotion to the muse that the first three BBD albums had guitar related titles
'A very British amalgam of mannered glam a la Cockney Rebel, post-Tommy classic rock, the proto post punk of Eno’s Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy and the avant-prog of King Crimson’s Red'

Do they still do those 'Part 1 of a 2CD set' things these days with singles or has that been relegated to the multi-format dustbin of near history?

A rehearsal room, Birmingham, late 70s
A young John Taylor discovers the octave jump on his bass

Andy Taylor "Alright John what you playing there"
John "Listen to this"

Andy "Not bad!"
John "I'm going to use it on every bloody song now!!"

Sometimes when I overthink things (as is my want) I have to remind myself that this is the timeline Alan Partridge technically exists in. One with bombdogs, Slemmel's disease, Iggy Pop pound notes and a pregnant Cliff Richard
On this date in 1994 (which was 12 years ago, obviously) the first episode of The Day Today was broadcast on BBC2.

Quote an actor in the wrong film:

“There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

Memphis, 1962. Two white & two black musicians formed a band with a new instrumental take on R&B. They made no big deal about being mixed-race, they just stood as equals and showed black and white were great together. All hail Booker T And The MGs.

In a feat of new year generosity, I am giving away a signed copy of my book, Off The Ground: Paul McCartney In The 1990s. Quote-post this with something you like about Macca’s 90s activities. Winner chosen from those that most surprise or amuse me. You have a week or so. @reaktionbooks.bsky.social

How much would your record collection have upset the self-righteous, censorious PMRC back in the day. How many of the Filthy Fifteen do you own?
(Disappointingly I'm only a relatively safe 5)

Like Complete Illustrated Lyrics but it's every Beatles song represented by a reproduction of an original period sheet music publication, so you get the lyrics and the chords and of course these beauties from Revolver

Agreed, but I also reckon one of the best post-punk albums of the era. Up there with Unknown Pleasures, Ocean Rain and Wilder for me
#VinylCommunity Siouxsie & The Banshees - Juju (1981). No question the best Banshees album for me with a smattering of uncompromising pop hits amongst much darker and deeper thoughts. McGeoch was never better. An astonishing achievement from all involved. #NowPlaying #Voodoo

Killing Joke - Bloodsport

Youth once claimed their first album had a huge Chic influence - I hear more Hawkwind than Nile Rogers - but this track is genuinely funky, like Faust jamming with Parliament. Post-PFunk-Krautpunk. Yowsa yowsa yowsa!
