Happy #SuperbOwlSunday, this is our owl and he hangs out in the owl box in the meadow. He arrived in November (first ever owl occupant) and we are extremely happy to have him.

The oldest known image of an owl:

More than 30,000 years ago, someone skillfully scratched the figure of a long-eared owl (Asio otus) into the soft outer layer of the walls of Chauvet Cave, France. The owl is looking backward over their wings, head turned 180 degrees

Natural England are dragging their heels on certifying the Middlewick Ranges as a SSSI, protecting it from development.

The community need to fund a judicial review to protect this place.

Please chip in - even just a couple of quid helps.

I emailed the reporters and editors yesterday afternoon. Got a prompt response saying they were looking at it—and have heard nothing since.

Is @theguardian.com just waiting to fix their non-exclusive exclusive until no one is looking?

I am not letting this go.
Hey @theguardian.com, I was the first journalist to report the second ICE flight to Israel, and I reported on the Dezer’s connection to it for @zeteo.com in October. Why are you not crediting me or Zeteo?

To show how widespread SGAR rat poison is in UK, we found 4 out of 5 Sparrowhawks are also dosed with it. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
You might well ask how a predator that eats birds gets dosed with rat poison? Answer: people chuck it everywhere and it's in insects, songbirds, everything.
UK also has massive issue of SGAR poisoning: virtually every barn owl, kite, kestrel ingests rat poison.
If invented today they'd never be licensed. But they're not banned because food/hygiene industries can't yet do without them. But to have them available in supermarkets/garden centres is insane.
Household rat poisons found to be ‘unacceptable risk’ to native animals. So why aren’t they banned? 🌎

At least one upside of the rainy weather is that this new pond, created in an arable field corner in autumn 2024, is nearly full! Last summer it was down to a damp patch at the bottom because of the drought. Looking forward to the surrounding areas regrowing a bit so it looks a little less desolate.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

To avoid the possibility Holocaust remembrance might lead to empathy for migrants, Trump's antisemitism envoy claims Anne Frank "was in Amsterdam legally."

In reality, Margot Frank received a summons to go to a labor camp on July 5, 1942. After ignoring this call, they were in Amsterdam illegally.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

The Social Media giants need to be accountable.

Banning SM for kids under 16 simply lets those corporations off the hook and those kids who want to, will not only get round it - but do so surreptitiously and in my opinion that's far more dangerous.

Since 2020 the world's billionaires have accumulated enough additional wealth to end global poverty 26 times over. This inequality is staggering and utterly outrageous.

We urgently need national & global action to reverse this & address the distortion of politics caused by extreme wealth.
