Listen to this. Not a penny more for this. Abolish and prosecute anyone who had anything to do with it.

The thing the halftime show reminded me of was something Jared Diamond said about how this century will essentially play out like (heavily paraphrasing) a horse race btw 2 forces, one of progress+light and the other destruction+darkness, and what Bad Bunny offered was such a counterpoint to

I'm going to do a thread of all the references and context behind Bad Bunny's performance and what it means for Puerto Ricans to see this on the biggest stage.

The opening title screen is a street mural in Puerto Rico that comes to life with footballs as coconuts.

It's a silly thing to attack people over in any case. Using fashion to signal support for ongoing acts of rebellion is good

The banality of evil is shocking. An ex-Big Lots warehouse for cheap consumer junk is bought by ICE to ship as many as 7,500 handcuffed human beings, as the Trump regime builds a U.S. gulag archipelago

-taken from one overcrowded & filthy prison to another over 19 days
-held incommunicado
& ICE never telling him a court ordered his release

Our analysis in this paper shows that immigrants generated a fiscal surplus of about $14.5 trillion from 1994 to 2023, that the average immigrant is much less costly than the average US-born American,...

He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

George Lakoff came up with the 'truth sandwich' concept during Trump's first term. It's not magic but it's good basic information hygiene and should be the default when fighting against bullshit
