I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Now listen to me here. I do not care who it is. I do not care how scary it might seem. If a man – any man – points in a woman's face and says "Quiet piggy" you say something about it. It does not matter if it is the president flailing around with the kind of sudden burst of anger common amongst dementia patients receiving end of life care. You stand up and you say "What the fuck did you just say?"

It brings me joy to see the casual use of #Stoicism in Gregoire 's interview with @arlenedickinson.bsky.social

How pervasive Stoicism is in today's culture, without any nods to it, tells me how successful it is as a practical philosophy.

(Also, fuck that guy.)

Grégoire added that she is "very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers." "What I do with it is my decision," she added." The woman I want to become through this is my decision." Not that she's against feeling all the feelings. let myself be disappointed by someone, I'l let myself be angry, be sad," Grégoire said. “And I know for a fact how important it is, as a mental health advocate, to feel those emotions."

Also, I know what she said isn't classical Stoicism. Some might call it simply watered-down pop-psychology.

But its roots go all the way back to the Big Three.
